My sister had just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism too. Does this fact mean that it's likely hashi's that we both have? I mean what are the odds for both of us having it if it's not?

Being sisters it is possible to have the same type of hypothyroidism. To confirm it is hashimoto's, thyroid antibodies have to be tested - if result is negative she would have 'normal' hypo if blood test results also prove she has hypo (not by the TSH alone).
Does 42 (<60) mean the its not autoimmune? Or can it still be? It seems like everywhere else the upper limit is 9 or 35...
You'd have to give the ranges which are next to the results and they are in brackets usually.
That is the range less than 60 and the other labs less than 9 or 35 depending on the lab. I'm just worried that the different reference ranges are like the different tsh ranges. That some labs keep the upper limit of the range too high.
