Graves' disease and Parkinsons

Wow, I hope they're wrong! Have you tried acetyl l carnitine? Read up on it as it blocks thyroid so be careful but apparently being hyperthyroid can reduce the levels in the muscles which brings on the shakes
How awful for you, Have you checked your B12 and D vits as low levels in these can cause all sorts of problems.gps don't think to look at the vitamin levels and if you got problems with your thyroid you are very often low in them, if gp won't have then done you could always get private bloodtest , medichecks and blue horizon are two that are very often used by people on here, you just send off for the kit you want and do finger prick test at home send it back get results in 48hrs, just have to look on line for them.hope this helps.let us know how you get on.
I was about to post the same as Raventhorpe - VitD and B12 need to be optimal - and when B12 is very low it can lead to a mis-diagnosis of Parkinsons I have read. When levels are below 500 it manifests as a neurological condition and the signs and symptoms are detailed in the link below - do scroll down the page though
I have shakes in one hand. The other hand I had the Carpal Tunnel op. Dr wanted me to have the same done on shaky hand but once I learned it was part of muscle condition of hyperthyroidism I refused. I take vit d B12 which has not really helped shakes. Have had it for 3 years and it has not worsened. PS bit extreme and frightening GP saying it might be P without any tests?
It's definitely neurological, so ask to be referred to a neurologist !
It'd be worth having your homocysteine levels checked as this is actually a more reliable indicator of a problem.
When it comes to vitamins for neuropathy (whatever 'flavour' it's coming in) - you need to think B's and their co-factors like Magnesium and Zinc, but the balance has to be right for you. B12 is good for Hashi's, but in Graves, you may (not certain) have a more pressing requirement for p-5-p, magnesium and niacin. It depends on other symptoms you're experiencing too including food intolerances...
B1(thiamine) is also worth considering (deficiencies can also cause neuropathy) if you're gluten free like me it's one thing we're probably missing out on.
Best get some bloods done (include homocysteine) and get back to the forum - other symptoms too!
N.B. I am assuming that your doctor has checked all the obvious things like very low tsh, very high T4 which would just mean that it was unmanaged Graves' causing the tremors.
I think that is irresponsible of your doctor. Many things can cause hand tremor and some people with Parkinson's (such as my mother-in-law) don't even have it . My husband was diagnosed with PD last year, but only after seeing a neurologist. However, he had no actual medical intervention eg a scan. It is usually enough to examine symptoms and do simple movement tests. When you walk, do both your arms swing? Have you developed a slight stoop? Do you find you are doing things more slowly? Hand tremor is not enough! All the advice re vitamins seems very sensible. Good luck!
Do you have any other hyper symptoms?
If you don't mind could you tell me your latest thyroid levels please thank you .....TSH ? Free T3 free T4 my thyroid levels was high when my hand tremor started.
