Yes, I struggled with this as well as gastrointestinal issues when I was on significantly too low a dose of medication

Does stomach acid increase with TH medication?

I take my THs with water & a scoop of ascorbic acid, & like ACV on my salads. I also like fruit throughout the day.

My teeth are not happy.

Drink them through a straw to protect tooth enamel :)

ninja1 Many hypo patients suffer from low stomach acid. You can supplement with Betaine HCl with Pepsin or use organic apple cider vinegar with 'Mother' in honey sweetened water before a meal.

Hi ninja1

I would agree with SeasideSusie..both these products are excellent and helped me get off long term PPIs. 😁

Hi ninja1,

Just noticed your post. I have only recently been diagnosed as hypo 3 weeks ago. Don't know how long I've been hypo but years of severe depression, aching all over, which GP psychiatrist told me was depression, feeling dog tired, which my GP and psychiatrist said was depression. Never really responding to antidepressants. Anyway, to get to the point, after 10 years on ppi drugs for supposed reflux , 6 months ago I started getting epigastric pain, just at bottom of breastbone, nausea, flactulance, both ends :-), appetite drop and yet despite this, weight gain. Had all tests going: endoscopy, ultrasound, barium swallow, ct scan. All came back clear except for constipation. I still have these stomach symptoms everyday. However since coming almost off ppi's, splitting a 15mg tablet in half, so, 7mg and starting on levothyroxine 50mgs, after an initial increase in gastric irritation and increase in nausea, after about day 11 I think I am sensing small improvement. A very long winded way of saying that YES gastric problems i.e. Slower transit time of food through gut and lower acid are definitely linked to hypo. I think the suggestions that people make about increasing stomach acid via supplements are worth a try and I am going to give one of these a go after talking with my GP. keep your diet clean and reduce quantity of carbs, try a good probiotic like symprove, avoid stress as much as you can, learn to meditate, maybe learn mindfulness.

Good luck
