I had total thyroidectomy22 years ago no problem until Xmas when I became overmedicated. Doc reduced 100 to 50 levothyroxine and now it would appear I'm the opposite. He won't let me increase it feel rubbish.

100 down to 50 seems a bit of a hefty drop after,22 years ,75 then 50, you said he wouldn't up your dose even with your new results,? I would ask for an explanation to why he won't increase your dose again,say you weren't happy with his decision in dropping so far ,list your symptoms and tell him your worried about falling any lower.

I told him I think he knows nothing he told me I rechecked bloods too soon (one month) and to leave it for three. Only got these after I insisted he told me that tsh and t3 don't count he's so wrong. I told him to refer me but appt not until may. I can't wait that long so booked private at spire next week. If tsh doesn't count why is it all nhs do had private bloods done and ft3 just fell under range I'm so fed up

Yes, it's frustrating that every thing with thyroid bloods take so long you seem to be doing the right thing if you have booked at the spire for next week,hopefully private Dr will have a bit more of a clue take your blood results with you and hope fully he will able to help more.

The NHS in the main don't really understand the TSH but once diagnosed and on medication it's not a reliable guide. When you see the expert don't take your medicine that day and hopefully your blood draw will be as early as you can get it. Also be starved as that gives a much better reading. Not sure if just booked in for bloods or whether you are seeing a doctor but I'm sure if the results show problems they will advise what to do next.

Changing by one 25 microgram pill a week, you can adjust average dose per day by about 4 microrgams. Yet this person who does not understand imposes a 50%/50 microrgam reduction in one fell swoop!

100% endorse you doing whatever is necessary.

Next time you fee; slightly over-medicated, you'll more likely make a very minor adjustment yourself. I assume.

Just an quick update, finally saw private endo who agreed lowering meds by 50 was far too much so he raised it by 25 and said it should always be altered by 25 never more. After six weeks check bloods and if still not in range alter again then. He also wants to check with a scan just to make sure tissue hasnt regrown since my TT, although he did say this was very rare. He thinks it strange that i should go throtoxic after 22 years, but not impossible. He says there is various reasons why this could happen, one being the regrowth of tissue although rare, the other one being mixed batch of meds, which i was taking, ie mercury pharma and actavis, the other reason could have been the rather large quantities of antibiotics i had been on at that time, What a wonderful man, very thorough
