They show you're horribly deficient in B12 and folate. And I've just read a post of yours on the PA forum that your mother has PA? I think it's very likely you do too!

Your Vit D and ferritin are both too low as well and you'd benefit from supplementing.

While your TSH is a little on the high side, I think your main problem is going to be the B12 deficiency - your thyroid might sort itself out if your B12 and folate is addressed.

I'd suggest you copy and paste your post on to the pernicious anaemia forum for comment.

Thanks!! I have just gone back onto that post and they have dropped by 100 in at least 3 weeks. Surely that is not normal!!

Nope, not normal. I see your brother is gluten intolerant - and again, you might be too, which would mean you don't absorb nutrients well.

Has your doctor actually tested intrinsic factor? Not that it always shows up - Martyn Hooper, who founded the Pernicious Anaemia Society, infamously had many tests before getting a positive intrinsic factor result.

No. The doctors are refusing to test me for anything else and put me anti depressants as of last week as they think its all in my head!!!

For goodness sake... how can B12 deficiency be in your head???

I take it there's not another doctor in the practice you can see? If not, you might find that joining the PA Society helpful as you can ask Martyn for assistance in getting the treatment you need.

Nope. I saw one doctor and she said in my notes that maybe i should go onto anti depressants. I went to see a different doctor as i wasnt happy that she was saying that but the other doctor just agreed with her. Citalopram for a week now with horrid side effects!!!

I'm not surprised. Please - go and repost on the PA forum and ask them how to persuade your doctor you need further assistance.

If you dont agree with your doc dont take the citalopram. My doc has attempted to put me on all sorts to cover up my symptoms and ive politely told them to stick it! You get some funny looks when you dare to say no. It can be quite ammusing actually coz they just dont know what to say or do when you stand up to them. I think nowadays a lot of these docs are just guessing and I aint being no docs experiment! X

If you look at the list of B12 DEFICIENCY signs and symptoms you will see there are so many neurological symptoms - including Low mood. Also your VitD is low - are you supplementing .... ??

Please look at the website of Kelly Brogan - a psychiatrist who has spoken out about the pills that do not work for depression.

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

Please please scroll down on the above link to read the Neuropsychiatric symptoms - there are many. Please do not take anti-depressants. When you have your B12/Folate/VitD at OPTIMAL levels then you can re-visit the situation. You have said the side effects are bad - so go with your body - it could possibly mean your body does not need them.

Thanks for this!! I have written most of those symptoms down and have gone to the doctor with them, and got told I was depressed. I have been backed into a corner with the anti-depressant. But i am off to the doctors again on friday about them so i will ask to come off them this week!!

and yes i am supplementing them now, the doctor neglected to tell me that I would have to supplement for life now.
