How do you actually know when your on the right level of meds?
Is it because you suddenly become symptom free?
Do all your symptoms disappear?
Is it because your blood results show your in the best ranges?
Is it because things change in your body? Like you loose rather than gain weight? You get a libido? Etc etc.
How do you then know your over medicated? All the same as above?
I've read about someone being on 400mg of levo. I'm currently on 150mg and I'm ill. Im far from being well. I know my Endo thinks I will go up to 200mg but is that just guess work or is it a 'common' amount to be on? 400 seems so much! And soooooo far away to get up too......that would mean months and months even a year or more of upping meds..?
I've put on exctally a stone in literally 6 weeks. I want the right level of meds and I want to kinda know roughly how long it's going to take me to get there if that makes sence?

Being on treatment for 25 years, from my perspective, no, not totally symptom free when on better dose than I am now. More energy and lighter in spirit but still with limited energy. The temptation to overdo things too has to be curbed. Dry hair improved but nails didn't, dark circles didn't, sleep patterns did and brain fog lifted.
The optimal dose is one which leaves you 'euthyroid' i.e. symptom free and feeling well. Addressing other factors which can have a negative impact on thyroid function: vitamins, diet, stress and lifestyle will help absorption of the Levothyroxine. Everyone is different so just because someone else takes 400 mg of levo, that doesn't mean you will, nor is there a 'rule' about how long it takes to reach the best dose for you. Could you post your latest blood tests, TSH, T4 and T3? You will get good advice from people on this forum about what might be happening with you.
Hi @scazzoh I totally get that and understand everyone is different. I'm very curious to know why my Endo 'thinks' I will end up on 200 tho....I can't figure that one out.......
I was once told by my doctor he had never seen a thyroid gland start to work, as I was on high dosage and I mean high dosage, and suddenly I had to drop my medication as my thyroid gland started working. Been under active since about the age of six, which was over 60 odd years ago. My experience is you just have to manage your symptoms, would love to loose weight but find it very difficult, also suffer from very dry skin. But I could be suffering from something much worse. Best of luck.
