If you skip a couple of doses it will speed up washing out of the higher dose. Should then take just a few days after reducing dose to feel better.
Your thyroid levels are obviously low if your GP wanted to increase dose. You might try taking half the prescribed increase for 2-3 weeks and if you tolerate that okay increase to the full prescribed increase.
