Hi everyone i have had an underactive thyroid for about a year and i'm currently on 125mgs Levothyroxine but for the past 2 weeks i've felt incredibly tired and falling asleep constantly and have little energy does anyone think these symptoms could be down to my thyroid?

Hi newbie here in need of help please
Welcome to the forum, NFFC_NO1_FAN.
Fatigue is certainly a hypothyroid symptom but can be due to other things. There is a list of thyroid symptoms in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...
If you are ticking a lot of the boxes ask your GP to do a thyroid function test. Arrange the blood draw early in the morning when TSH is highest, and fast beforehand (water only) as TSH drops after eating and drinking.
Hi yes i get alot of those symptoms and have had a postive test for an underactive thyroid and have medication fot it but i was feeling ok until a couple of weeks ago and i'm now feeling worse than when i was first diagnosed? Thankyou for replying
NFFC_NO1_FAN,
It's not uncommon for symptoms to feel worse when you first start taking Levothyroxine as it takes 7-10 days for the Levothyroxine to be absorbed before it starts working and it will take up to six weeks to feel the full impact of the dose. Symptoms may lag behind good biochemistry by several months by you should be feeling some improvement in a couple of months.
For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements and oestrogen.
You should have a follow up thyroid test 6-8 weeks after starting Levothyroxine as starting dose usually needs increasing. Arrange an early morning and fasting (water only) blood draw when TSH is highest, and take Levothyroxine after your blood draw.
Ok thankyou i've been taking my medication for about 1 year i started on 100mgs then had a blood test 6 weeks later and it was upped to 125mgs and i have stayed on that ever since so not sure what is happening whether i need the levothyroxine altering or not?
NFFC_NO1_FAN,
You should have a thyroid test 6-8 weeks after a dose adjustment and then annual blood tests once dose is stable.
When you've had your test post the results and ranges (figures in brackets after results) in a new post and members will advise whether you are optimally medicated.
I have an appointment on the 8th February for a blood test, how will i know my results i didn't know them last time i was just told i had an underactive thyroid and how much medication i would be on?
