Hi Mark, what are the tablets you are taking? How are your thyroid levels?
my nan had addisons disease and altough the tablets where great at keeping here adrenal levels right the side effects of the tablets often include weight gain, later onset of osteoporosis, arthritis and diabetes they never told my nan this they only seem to tell you the short term effects of cortisol steroids so my advice is ask the doctors about the health effects later on in life of these medications and what you can do now to reduce there onset im not telling you to scare you just to help you be informed and what to ask the doctors so you can gain insight and confidence in coping and controlling your addisons.
Mark I have Addisons and have also suffered with symptoms of ibs stomachs cramps bad and lots of issues going to the loo it does get easier over time I went to Gp to get something to help bascapan helped a great deal !
Regards Russell
Buscopan can be bought without a prescription. I can't remember if I had to go to a pharmacy to buy it or whether I got it from a supermarket.
It's a lot easier buying it yourself than getting a doctor's appointment in the UK!
From the pharmacy but at £5 per pack it works out quite expensive when and if you need them everyday hence the reason I ask the Gp !! And then you can get a few months worth !
Hi there as a congenital adrenal Hypoplasia since birth now in my 61st year of steroids. They keep me alive I respect the power of steroids , there is no choice not too take them.
Live for the present, you can still do what everyone else does, I go sailing with disabled , art is my salvation, and getting back into Scuba diving with disabled in a pool (after a very long break!) and swimming.
You will be monitored and have dexa scan for bones, and monitored more closely now than if you did not have Addisons....so keep taking the tablets .
Lots of hugs to all
