Sorry forgot some important info. I was previously diagnosed with Graves.
Some years ago I had Radioactive Iodine as the meds were making me really ill. Although I felt better initially, the weight soon started to pile on and we had a bit of a problem stabilising things. My levels of TSH & T3 seem to be ok however T4 was a bit high at last test this year. Have been stabilised (or as good as it has gotten), on 150mcg Thyroxine, except for a 3 month period when the stupid Dr I was seeing at the time reduced it to 100mcg.
Now my doctor seems to think all is ok even though I keep telling him that I am tired, sluggish, have brain fog, etc. I know that things aren't as good as they should be and I asked about using T3 also but not interested in prescribing it.
Am using Vit D, Vit B complex and Magnesium.
What approximately should my levels of Ferritin and Folate be?
Some years ago I had an iron infusion at the hospital as iron levels were extremely low but no problems since.
If you had your thyroid gland knocked out altogether, my personal opinion (I have my gland and am hypothyroid) the very least the doctor should do is add some T3 (liothyronine) to your T4 (levothyroxine).
You should be feeling reasonably well if you were on an optimum of hormones.
Levothyroxine did me no favours at all. In fact I was worse than before being diagnosed with a TSH of 100. The Addition of T3 was a great help but am now on T3 only.
What we need is for Free T4 and Free T3 to be tested (which they rarely do as they've been told the TSH is all that is necessary. This is a link and read about FT4 and FT3:-
Your folate could be a little higher, like 30-35, and your B12 should be 900 or higher. Lower could contribute to fatigue.
For iron, you might want to get a full iron workup - it has about 5 numbers. Then you can see if you have an odd pattern. I recently found I was severely deficient in B6, to the point I wasn't making hemoglobin properly, so my red blood cells couldn't carry oxygen - and it was the pattern that gave it away. I was already taking a lot of B6, but my body demanded more, and not having it contributed to my fatigue.
Are you on a gluten free diet and maybe dairy free? Low iron and Bs could be related to gut damage from food allergies. You might look into other food allergies as well. And possibly a chronic infection like Epstein Barr, herpes family, etc. or intestinal imbalance.
