Hi All,
Can anyone who uses/has used NDT give me any reviews of various brands please? It is for my partner who has her thyroid removed and currently uses T4/T3 combo.
Also can anyone PM me any reputable suppliers from abroad to the UK?
Many thanks

Hi,
I had my right thyroid lobe removed due to thyroid cancer and was put on the usual synthetic meds over a period of 2 years. My endo then trialled me on Armour thyroid and I felt much better. I wasn't 100% but there was a big improvement in my mental health and welbeing. My daughter's words were, "I've got my Mum back". Then in June of this year my endo took me off the Armour because he could no longer fund it, the cancer hospital refused to fund it and my Gp refused because it's unlicensed. I was put back on T3 (Liothyronine mono therapy at double the dose) because this hadn't been tried and then I became suicidal. I felt absolutley lousy and was finding it hard to cope. I couldn't cope and function at all and with a 3 year old grandson to look after I was failing him, my family and me. I went back for a review with my endo and said I wanted a private prescription and that I wanted to try WP Thyroid. He did so and I've been on WP Thyroid since September and I'm much better. Suicidal thoughts gone, I've more energy and hypo symptoms subsided (only to return in the past few weeks because he dropped my dose because he thought I was over medicated), but an overall general improvement. My daughter saw the changes in me first hand and told me to get back on the NDT because I'd gone back to being a zombie. Again, she said "I've got my Mum back", when I started on the WP Thyroid.
I hope this gives you a brief account of my own experience, and if you would like further information please PM and I'll do my best to help.
TT x
westward15,
Unfortunately no-one can really give you a useful review of the various brands, because what works best for one person does not necessarily work best for another. This is something that each patient has to go through by trial and error. So, the best brand of desiccated thyroid is the one that suits the individual patient and the same thing goes for dosing requirements.
If you can share more information about your partner's thyroid situation - e.g. most recent test results, current medication regime and why it's not working etc - other members can offer suggestions.
Ideally your partner would join the forum too, but I understand if this is not possible for some reason.
Thank you both for your very helpful replies.
I totally understand what you are saying and realised that was the case for whatever thyroid medication is taken. The reason my partner isn't on the forum is that the brain fog takes over so much at times that typing an email can be a long laborious process.
She has managed well for years on T4 but her recently health declined. Her endo suggested the T3 which has had some success but she can react in a quite extreme manor to it at times. She is in healthcare and so luckily is aware if she is over medicated. One minute she is fine then can dive into major hypo symptons again or sometimes can just go a little manic on it. This happened especilly when she was prescribed the T3 @20mcg once a day in the begining!!! Luckily since then I have done a lot of research into it all so we now understand the various treatments far more and, dare I say, far more than the doctor!
We therefore thought it would be worth trying NDT being a more natural form and maybe she was reacting even to the fillers in the T3. Like you say it is a matter of experimenting to find the optimum product and dose! I have now ordered a small supply of two different Thai NDT's to see the reaction.
We completely understand the brain fog issue here, and thank goodness your partner has you to help her. As for understanding more about thyroid and the treatments than the doctor, well yes, you are certainly not alone there either Most of the regular posters on this forum have had to find their own way, and are very knowledgeable indeed.
Wishing you both good luck with the desiccated thyroid trials. If you have questions, just keep coming back to the forum and you'll likely find someone to help.
