T4 14.8.8

Tsh -12.2

I am 450mg daily of lethothroxine. Bloods are the same as they were 3 montbs ago despite increase. I have been hypothroidism for 29 years. My gp has now refered me to an endocrinologist. Appointment is at end of January. Is there anything i should be asking for?

Thanks

Thanks

You had lots of helpful replies in your last post and thread. Did anything help ? I cannot see any replies from you :-)

Am afraid Endos can be devoid of good helpful knowledge about the thyroid - from reading this forum that is. Please read the the link above to your earlier thread - I think you will find so many helpful replies - and possibly far more than you will learn from an Endo.

Your TSH is still too high :-)

rolo-polo1965,

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before food and drink or 2 hours after. Take it 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from iron, calcium and vitD supplements and oestrogen.

Has TSH always been high since you've been taking Levothyroxine or is the rise a recent thing?

I have tried taking my levothyroxine at different times of the day to see if it makes any difference. I have always been on high doses

Rolo-polo1965,

Malabsorption caused by coeliac disease is a common cause of patients requiring very high doses of Levothyroxine. Your GP could check this. Your endo might want to check whether you have some resistance to thyroid hormone.

Thankyou. I am making a note of all your sugestions ready to speak about

I would ask for a different doctor. Obvious the current one is useless as that quantity of levo is quite ridiculous.

I hope your endo has more sense than your doctor.

Panda321,

People need as much Levothyroxine or NDT as they need. Rolo-polo1965's GP has done the right thing to increase dose in response to rising TSH and has done the right thing in referring Rolo-polo1965 to endocrinology to investigate why such high dose is required.
