First blood results after total thyroidectomy

Hi guys,

Voila! That's my first blood results 3 weeks after my total thyroidectomy and being on 150mcg Levothyroxine and 2 tablets of Calcium a day. What do you think of the results? I haven't seen a doctor yet. Am I being over or under medicated? Looking forward to hearing your views.

Thanks

Hi Tamzin27,

Looks like you are optimally dosed. TSH is suppressed as expected on 150mcg, FT4 is about half way through range and FT3 is very good, in the upper third of range which indicates you are a good converter.

Looks like you may need Calcium tablets a while longer to maintain calcium at 2.29.

Thank you Clutter. I was thinking maybe I need to reduce the Levo just a tiny bit. Only because I feel slightly shaky at times. Not all the times only sometimes. I also find myself shaking my legs a lot, voluntarily. I was wondering if it's a hyper symptom? I'll wait until I see the surgeon on the 12th and see what he says before I alter my dosage.

Tamzin27,

You could skip a couple of doses and reduce to 125/150mcg alternate days to see if the tremors improve but as you aren't biochemically over medicated you may end up feeling under medicated.

I might give that a try and see how it goes. I certainly don't want to be under medicated though. Maybe I should be patient and wait until I see my surgeon on the 12th. Thank you Clutter for your advice. Always helpful.

Tamzin27,

Sometimes it is worth making a small adjustment yourself to see how it works for you. If your surgeon makes the adjustment and you end up feeling under medicated you may have to wait weeks before the original dose is reinstated.

Tamzin27 this is a great post. I hope my numbers come back as nearly close as yours when my post op labs are done. I to take 150 and 2 Calcium capsules a day.

AshleighJade, I'm glad you found it helpful. Fingers crossed for you. I did go down to 125 mcg because I was getting achy bones but it turned out to be my Vit D. I was so deficient in Vit D, my bones were aching. Initially, I thought it was the Levothyroxine causing it and that's why I reduced it to 125. But Vit D tablets has sorted out my achy bones, so I've gone back to 150. I think it's about getting to know your body, how you feel etc. Good luck with yours.

Tamzin27, Thank you and I feel great. I started counting calories immediately and I can feel the difference. My main issue is insomnia.
