How long should you wait before you up NDT dose?

Hi, I have been taking 1 grain nature-throid for a week and not feeling any better. How long should I wait before I up my dose? I get 1 week is not very long, but not sure how long it should be until you feel it working. Also, if I need to up my dose, by how much is recomended? Thanks!

Well, have you just started on thyroid hormones, in which case you should increase by half a grain every 4 or 5 weeks, or have you moved to ndt from t4 only, or t3/t4 combination... Which could mean a different strategy..... Give us a clue.......

Well the general (good) advice is to start low and go slow. However....... I didn't know that when I changed from an under dose of Levo to a reasonable (first approximation) dose of Armour NDT. I just went cold turkey. One morning, instead of the Levo I popped one and a half grains of Armour. I felt like a cloud from heaven wrapped itself round me. The pains disappeared as I lay there (for the one hour before breakfast). As I got out of bed my legs worked like normal and as I walked to the bathroom there were no aches nor pains!

I would say if you are not experiencing any improvement, go up to your next dose. Cut back if you feel jittery or experience any palpitations or too fast a heart beat. Keep an eye on your pulse and basal body temperature (and in some cases your blood pressure).
