My Tsh has gone from 36 to 13 in one mth on thyroxine 50mcg so I'm wondering why I don't feel any better. Still tired, lightheaded foggy is this normal?

Richard123,

Quite normal because your thyroid hormones T4 and T3 won't have risen much and have probably only just started to metabolise and work on symptoms. TSH 13 is still too high and you will need one or two dose increases until TSH is 1.0 or lower with FT4 in the upper range. Even when biochemistry is good you may find symptoms lag behind by a couple of months.

Ask your GP to check ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate when you have your next thyroid test because vitamins and minerals are often low or deficient in hypothyroid patients and will cause fatigue, musculoskeletal pain and low mood.

Thanks, I'm low ferritin and vit D started those few weeks ago...

Vit D mouth spray 3000u once day and 1 ferrous sulphate a day

I've added in good multi vit but this awful tiredness and lightheadedness started just before diagnosis and treatment started post viral so really feel like I got virus then whack and I'm struggling to lift myself back up......

Richard123,

It's a really slow process to recovery :(

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before or 2 hours after food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements and oestrogen.

Can you remember what your d result was? If it is sufficiently low you'll need a loading dose to raise your levels and an ordinary supp won't help. My d was 10 and the gp told me to get a bottle of tablets from Holland and Barrett. Some of them don't have a clue. Even w loading dose it took many months to get it up to normal. Have a look here, it's all explained: imperialendo.com/for-doctor...
