i was diagnosed with mutlinoduar goitre in 2014 i had a ultra scan done which confirmed this. Last year i had another scan to investigate the goitre to see if it had increased it had not the size stayed the same, however ive recently had another scan and the multinodular goitre has increased in size im not sure by how much until i see my dr all i know it is know 14mm and the radiographer compared my two scans and confirmed that it had increased. my question is what could this mean? my last blood results for thyroid function were normal however that was a few months ago now.

It doesn't mean anything per se but when the nodules get to a certain size you should be sent for a needle biopsy.
I had a mng, had a scan and biopsy when first diagnosed (think one was 2cm at the time) My biopsy was clear of cancer cells although they wanted to operate (thyroidectomy) I did some research, discussed with gp and decided to hold off and have annual scan/biopsy. Eventually, for me, the mng grew substernally so had to come out as was beginning to affect breathing. The time gap for me from first appt to operation was three years but this is an individual thing.
My original bloodtests were ok but now I don't have a thyroid and know how being hypothyroid affects you I believe my thyroid function was definitely depleted in the last year prior to operation, I increasingly felt bad, struggling in many ways and put on over a stone without eating more. Another thing I've learnt is that doctors and even consultants are terrible at diagnosing thyroid issues, relying far too much on blood tests, not doing the right /full complement of tests and not listening to patients actual symptoms!
So the big question is, how do you feel? Also if you have your blood test results with the ranges you can post here or do a new post and people can comment from their own experiences.
There is a school of thought that nodules can be held in check by treatment with thyroxine , can't remember where I read that ,it was too late for me but it might be worth you doing some research. Xx
Thank you so much for replying im sorry to hear how long it took for them to do anything, my mum was misdiagnosed for 7 years and had graves disease shes since had radiotherapy to shrink the thyroid. im worried i do have a thyroid issue but as my blood test result were fine last year they discharged me from endo. i went back to my drs the other day and they are sending me to ENT clinic to see if my breathing is being affected. i suffer with an anxiety disorder so its hard to say whether those symptoms are to do with anxiety or my thyroid however i know you can have anxiety with thyroid problems. my main symptoms are the goitre, how tired i feel like actually exhausted especially during time of the month i literally feel like i could faint, i feel cold all the time and im finding it hard to lose weight where as before i never had a problem. i have mood swings too and just generally feel drained! il post my results from last year but i havnt had a blood thyroid function blood test for a while now =/ x
I keep reading that goitre nodules can be due to low iodine levels. Iodine also needs adequate selenium to work.
ive read that too but apparently we get enough in our diets? xx
In theory yes. But testing shows many people are deficient. Google thyroid.org for more info and natural sources of dietary iodine.
I would try and get them to investigate further. Your symptoms do sound very much like mine, i was very cold often chilled to the bone and very tired (more than tired that word doesnt really do it justice) My temp was 34.7 when feeling chilled. Now im on medication (levo) my temp has increased slowly to 36.2 and i feel more normal. I used to go to bed with hat gloves and woolly socks on when hubby was just in shorts and had to wear fingerless gloves at work too.
And how are you now?
On 150 levo, taking high dose b12, folic acid, calcium/d3, mutlivit, eating mixed berries and walnuts/brazils/almonds for breakfast.
The constant brain fog, feeling cold and fatigue gone except when do too much when it all floods back. Trouble is "doing too much" is not much at all. I'm ok but housework doesn't get done much. I can't work or excercise except walking so I can stop when need to. I worry about long term health although docs only worry about reducing my levo which makes me worse. All v frustrating! I'm scared of getting older as I'm now unfit. Least without the brain fog I can now concentrate enough to read, hve conversations , plan things etc
Glad you're feeling better, you're doing the right things so far. Have you had antibiotics in the past? Ever had thrush or candida? Do you eat variety of fresh fruit n veg all colours? Or raw greens ie salads? That's the next thing that'll help.
