Commiserations Mandy72. It is very hard doing a diet and trying not to eat this or that.
I've tried the 5:2 diet which I found easier because you only restrict yourself two days a week. I know of someone who lost 4 stone on the 5:2 diet and I lost the amount I wanted to. You choose two days a week and restrict your calories to 500 so you can plan the day before what you're going to have also concentrating on the day following when you can eat normally. It doesn't feel so much like a punishment when you have to restrict yourself daily for quite a long time.
I am 2 stone heavier than before diagnosed. I cannot seem to shift any weight but also find myself eating everything in sight too mandy
Hypoglaecaemia, low blood sugar, goes along with hypothyroidism, it makes self restraint v hard. Also I find I get tired, have a black coffee to keep going, then crave sugar.
I think I have just accidentally eaten a quarter of a carrot cake.
i ate carrot cake sunday and it wasnt by accident, my daughter got me a slice from costa
Weight gain is a clinical symptom of hypothyroidism and (before they're diagnosed) go to GP complaining. They tell you to diet without doing a blood test for your thyroid hormones.
If you have been diagnosed they don't always increase dose of hormones so that your metabolism is raised, so no matter what you attempt it is extremely difficult. They also don't increase dose of levo and they are 'happy' and tell patient they don't need more because they're normal which means somewhere within the range when we need a TSH of 1 or lower.
i actually have the book here somewhere but i dont think i could cope on 500 cals in a day im so hungry lately im eating everything, when i go shopping i buy a twin pack of cakes knowing hubby dont lie them and eat them both, i could easily eat a huge pizza to myself too, not sure if its cortisol related or not but ive never been this hungry before
You will know yourself best of course, but I think you'd be surprised and if you prepare a day ahead - look at some of the recipes - and the usual things, i.e. drink tea without or some skimmed milk and there are recipes in the book and look forward to having no calories to count for the next 3 or 4 days. You've been dieting for 40 weeks and that takes some willpower and we can slip up now and then. I made my own veg soup and if hungry took some (counting calories in it). Maybe give yourself 2 weeks trial. I know if hypo it's not so easy.
Usually a woman needs approx 2,000 cals a day and when dieting drops to around 1,500 plus exercise (keep in mind I'm no dietician nor medically trained) so by taking 500 cals approx for two days i.e 1,000 cals you've already 'saved roughly 3,000 cals for the week.
I've just read this link and you're right it can be due to cortisol. I've read that taking Vitamin C can reduce cortisol and this link might be helpful too.

PS Your Tsh was 13 only 15 days ago, wasn't it? Stop the weigh ins, stop the dieting, you need to get better first. Until your medication is optimal you are not able to do it.
I have a friend who lost the weight on the 5/2, but that was starting the diet only after a year of treatment and with a little added t3. She says it took two years of treatment for full recovery. Baby steps. Have some cake. xx
SW isnt really a diet as such i can eat pretty much everything i want in moderation
im on T3 and going downhill fast, seriously considering lowering t3 and adding ndt but will chat with endo friday
