Constipated: Hi,I have hashimotos, have been... - Thyroid UK
Constipated
What exactly do you mean by being 'stable'? It's a much over-used word, and doesn't signify very much when it comes to thyroid. Are you well? That's the most important question.
Do you have copies of your blood test results? Do they ever test your FT3? Because if your FT3 is still low, then you are still hypo, and that's probably why you are constipated.
You could try taking magnesium citrate to loosen it up. Most people are magnesium deficient, and it's a natural laxative.
When I say stable I've been quite well for s long time, although the last few months I've not been that great. Seeing go tmrw so will mention FT3. Thank you
Well, while you're there, ask for copies of your blood test results for as far back as possible. It's your legal right to have copies under the 1998 Data Protection Act, but they might make a small charge for ink and paper. It sounds as if your disease has progressed and you now need an increase in dose. The results will show that up.
Vitamin c and probiotic supplements along with magnesium can keep things moving. Digestive enzymes may also help.
Try some fresh fruit about an hour after your thyroid hormones and wait for about half hour before you have breakfast.
Hi Elainio
I am waiting for my Endo appt in 2/3 weeks phew. No treatment yet. I've been chronically constipated for many years but over the last 9 weeks since this sub-clinical hypothyroidism I have been 'going' daily?!? The only positive symptom of the 49 negative ones!!! Previously I had to resort to laxatives which isn't ideal. Hopefully I will get all things dealt with. Have you said to yourGP reconstipstion? Regards Jane
I've seen gp this morning, she's given me some suppositories and movicol to hopefully get thing moving, also referred to bowel clinic and doing more bloods re thyroid and sending for scan on my thyroid as I have a lump on it
400mg magnesium glynate before bed every night does the trick with probiotic
Thank you,I'm going to get a probiotic and have got some magnesium capsules too
