chinook69 Generally us Hypos tend to have low stomach acid so a PPI like Omeprazole is the last thing we need as we need to increase our stomach acid not reduce it.

But you can't just stop Omeprazole, I understand that you have to come off it slowly.

How long have you been taking Omeprazole?

This is a link. I was given a medication which my GP assumed was high acid, it caused me immense stomach pain I stopped and switched to Betaine/pepsin tablets and sometimes I take Apple Cider Vinegar in juice/water during meals.

I am having exactly the same concerns, following my own research and the advice of my naturopath I stopped my omaprazole suspecting I had low gut acid, but was in terrible pain constantly. I then ended up one night vomiting a lot of blood and being taken to A&E and was in hospital for 5 days on a drip including omaprazole, it seemed that I had a nasty lesion in my esophagus thought to be caused by acid. It wasn't pleasant to say the least and I am really put off trying to come off it again even though I suspect it's not helpful for me in other ways. I tried to discuss it with my GP and said that my understanding was that the symptoms for too much acid were the same as not enough but I haven't got anywhere with that discussion.

I have also been given to understand that PPI's interfere with the absorption of vitamins etc and can contribute to B12 issues.

So.. if you are going to stop I would suggest you are careful about how you reduce it following my experience, I would also look and see if you are having acid in response to any particular foods. I have had cheese today which I rarely eat and even with my tablets the acid is off the scale so that's going to be banned.

hope something of my ramblings is helpful :)

I was in hospital last January for my second hip replacement. I was very sick all the time I was in, turned out to be the pain killers but after 4 days suggested I took a PPI! I refused and said with my thyroid problem we are low on stomach acid so must not reduce it further. I was asked if I'd ever had it tested and do lost the argument! Then I was sick again. Had I been sick into a China bowl then anyone of us would have been happy to eat my porridge and omelette! It didn't look as though it had been anywhere near my stomach. Nothing had even started to be broken down plus it had come up in a solid limp so very painful. They didn't give me another one!!! They had also made me take this after breakfast so just over an hour after I took my thyroid meds, not the four hours after so I came out of hospital in a pretty sorry state what with that and the continual sickness. Thankfully the hip was great but took me months to get back on track.

Hi, I also take Levothyroxine and Omeprazole for acid reflux and indigestion due to a hiatus hernia. When I read that I shouldn't take them together I queried with my GP and was told that I should be taking them at different times of the day and that I had misunderstood what taking together meant!

I happen to believe sugar is a real problem. I have followed the Zoe Harcombe diet for 3 years with really good results. However the last 6 months I have not been so good with cutting out sugar, mostly in the form of high sugar fruit and notice the difference with my inflammation levels. The funny thing is have never had a sweet tooth, but seem to have developed one. Need to get back on track. Thank you for the reminder.

I take both of these I take 2 omeprazole at night for a hiatus hernia tried cutting in half and taking 1 and the pain in my stomach the next day was agony

When I found out about the hernia I was told to loose weight to help

it was about 6 months before I found out about my under active thyroid maybe if they sorted that first I could get my weight under control 🤔

I have Hashimotos and take levo but also need various meds for other medical issues and take lansoprazole am and pm.

Might not be a bright idea but I know not taking them is worse....so as with most things I weighed up the pro,s and con,s and decided to stay on them.
