Hi ! When you have a TSH of 0.01 L what is it called? Hypo or Hyper? My Free T4 came back with 0.99. Thanks for information.

A low TSH on its own would not automatically mean hyper. Hyper is suppressed TSH with over-range FT3.

Hypo is low Frees - FT4 and FT3 - with, possibly, high TSH, but not always.

Can't say anything about your FT4 without the range. :)

If I'm right...I just requested my blood work from The Specialist office..its says T4 1.44 and this was on the 10th of this month when my reading was on the TSH 0.006 now from the hospital yesterday it showed what I put up 0.01

But, did you not get a range for the T4? Without the range, it's meaningless. You will only be hyper if your FT3 is over-range, and you haven't even had this tested.

I looked grey goose and there is no FT3 on this lab report just the FT4.

I had asked her (Specialist) before I got results on the phone if she knew what my Free 4 was she said, what's that ? Hmm and she is well known here as the best for thyroid problems. She also was happy that it was low and said she will watch if it goes up to normal...she has told me I don't need beta blocker, but yesterday my heart rate went up to 150 at the Emergency, at home it went up to 130 and had to pop a beta blocker in hopes it slow down. Well at hospital and it went up 150 then back down to 70s and 80s it was fluctuating then it went up to 110. So yes I think I'm still hyper. Was diagnosed as having hashimoto last month in the hospital when I went to hospital for a fast paced heart of 178, that when they found out it wasn't anxiety after going there a few times with a fast heart of 120 numerous times. Well the Specialist diagnosed me with Hashimoto and graves disease. Sorry I kept on going, I really appreciate you for your time and understanding. Big thanks.

Well, it's very difficult to interpret without the proper labs and the ranges. Graves is hyper, but Hashi's is hypo, with occasional hyper symptoms. Usually, when you have both, the Hashi's is dominant. But you really need a print-out of all your results, with the ranges. Otherwise, we're just guessing. The TSH on its own tell you very little.

True, but I will have to ask her( specialist) I'm tempted to even ask her to give me the radiation pill since what I have is draining me and high blood pressure the low blood pressure... Ugh..

greygoose in reply tosarajuarez2912

Well, if you do that, make sure you have a plan in place for your treatment afterwards. Don't just leave it to chance - get it in writing, even!

But, before I went that far, I would want to get my own, private labs, so I really knew what I was dealing with.

TSH

FT4

FT3

TPO and Tg antibodies for Hashi's

TSI, TRab, or TBII for Graves

Vit D

vitB12

folate

ferritin

Once you have all that information, treatment might be possible without getting the RAI.

I will look again on my paperwork on what you sent cause I sure wanted to know where to look for the diagnosis of hashimoto and graves. Thanks so much, I will search. In the meantime by chance is it okay to take vitamins and iron? Cause I know its important. I bought me some L- Carnitine 1000 mg that is suppose to help out with hyper and help bring up the TSH and help with free 4 and 3.

greygoose in reply tosarajuarez2912

It's a bad idea to take iron, vit D, vit B12 or folate without getting tested first. For many reasons. And don't even think about a multivit!

I'm afraid I know nothing about L-Carnitine.

But your TSH is of absolutely no importance. It doesn't do anything except stimulate the gland. It doesn't need to be higher. It's your Frees that need to be in a good place - i.e. up near the top of the range. If your doctor is obsessing about your TSH, she's barking up the wrong tree! But, you need all those labs I mentioned, to prove it to her.

Have you gone through the radiation pill grey goose? My cousin did cause of graves disease and my grandmom who passed away had graves disease, grandmom had a different radiation than the pill back in the days, and afterwards took some thyroid pill of 5 mg, she was a strong woman even tho she had diabetes and later on she had dialysis for her kidneys but she never complained.

No, I have Hashi's. And by the time I was diagnosed, I had no gland left, anyway. Well, none to speak of. But, I've read so many people on here whose doctors have rushed them into RAI, and then refused to treat them properly afterwards. That's why I mentioned it.

sarajuarez2912 in reply togreygoose

That's true. Reason I say its best is because I'm just afraid of a heart attack or other organ failure, I don't have a gall bladder and my enzymes on my liver have been going high then low Alkaline Phosphatase, S 227. I was very normal before I took thyroid pill and heart medicine. I'm going through again on what to look for on what you told me to look for. Thank you so much, I'm grateful.

Okay I found this on my lab report TSI- 496

TPO- 535

T. A.- 3.3

sarajuarez2912 profile image
sarajuarez2912 in reply tosarajuarez2912

Oh and the T4, Free results say 1.44 but I don't see FT 3 here since I called lab and lab said she didn't request it and TSH here is 0.006 but the TSH I got at hospital 2 days ago is 0.01

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply tosarajuarez2912

Well, it doesn't matter much about the TSH, so many things change the level. But, you still need a range for that FT4.

I'm surprised the lab didn't do an FT3, anyway, with that low TSH.

No ranges? Doesn't mean much without a range.

You should know grey goose, I'm learning with y'all on what to look for. And it defitently doesn't have the Ft3 here. Sorry I'm gonna have to get one done or ask the Dr on next appointment about it. Thanks so much.

You're welcome. It is hard to get an FT3 on the NHS - too expensive!

Imagine you have something measured and the test result is 6. (I'm just making up imaginary tests.) Your doctor tells you it is normal, there is nothing wrong with you. You still feel ill so you go looking for something else to find out why you feel so bad. If you keep complaining to the doctor that you feel terrible you might end up on anti-depressants, or with anti-anxiety meds. You also end up with depression and/or anxiety, a mental health diagnosis, on your medical history. You will never get rid of it and it could come back to bite you on the bum in the future.

Instead of being told that your result was 6, you were actually told it was 6 with a reference range of (6 - 16), you might think - Hang on! That result is right at the bottom of the range! I might feel better if it was higher. What happens next is less likely to involve anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds, and gives you more options of how to tackle your health problems.

Bear in mind too, that if your result was 4 with a reference range of 6 - 16, there are lots of doctors out there who think... "Close enough", and tell you that is normal too.

This is why we all bang on about getting the reference ranges. Without them a number on its own is telling you virtually nothing. And since reference ranges vary from lab to lab and over time, it is vital to get the ranges every single time you have a test.
