URGENT HELP
Hidden I was wondering that a couple of weeks ago when I lost my rag a bit with the receptionist, I thought I might get banned! But thinking about it, I doubt very much that they do record them because they would have to tell you in advance I'm sure. It would be like those telephone conversations when you ring up certain companies and the spiel goes something like 'For training purposes we record telephone conversations'.
Didn't think of that thank you
Calls to our surgery are recorded.
bantam12 and Hidden Do they make that public knowledge? Do they tell you when you ring?
Thanks for your responses, now I need to know for how long do they keep them.
I had a conversation with a legal friend over this - ok the person is a solicitor who specialises in Data Protection.
Any business should tell you if they are recording your call and why. Then even if they do most places don't keep it for longer than 30 days. Most get rid of it e.g. record over it, much sooner than that. (I had an issue with an insurer and they managed to get rid of my call within 7 days of me asking for it.)
You can record your own calls to people and businesses but you are NOT allowed to make the actual recording public without the other party's permission. The other party is within their rights to take you to court if you do this and if you are involved in a legal case you can get in big trouble. However you are within your rights to make a written transcript of the call and it can be word for word.
I believe that under the ''wireless and telegraphy act '' you have to be aware that a telephone call may /is being recorded for legal reasons so that if there is a dispute about what was actually stated/said by either party BOTH parties have access to the recording , as well as having the opportunity of refusing to be recorded --- I have stated to other companies in the past that '' for your information I am recording this telephone call , and a copy will be available if you wish '' --- you would be surprized how many end the call immediately --- , as a thought if you are having problems with the gp's reception I would tell your doctor that in future you will record ALL TELEPHONE CALLS from/to them and see the response ....... my gp has never had a problem with that ......alan xx
Pity I didn't read this earlier, practice doesn't record cals, l made mistake regarding informing them calls would be recorded. At least I know for next time
Thanks
in the US, they must tell you the call is being recorded, before they take your call, otherwise, you cannot use the recordings for legal purposes, in a court of law.
