Hi Sam, how is your body going to use thyroid hormone if there isn't any thyroid and you've stopped Armour. Are you taking anything else.

If you felt that Armour wasn't helping, perhaps your dose was too low. It's common to take 1 1/2 or 2 grains of NDT but people may need more. You may feel all right for the next few weeks and then crash. I don't think any other organ can produce thyroid hormone.

No, no other organ can produce thyroid hormone.

Hi grey, did you ever read the books by Fit For Life authors, Marilyn (I think) and Harvey Diamond? They were nutritionists and very popular. They commented that the ovaries may possibly be involved in thyroid production. It's been a long time but I think I still have the book. That was back in the 80's or before and possibly debunked but the body can be surprising.

No, never read those books. How, exactly would be ovaries be involved in thyroid production? Sounds weird.

Perhaps they were talking about conversion of T4 into T3 in peripheral (non-thyroid) tissues?

But in order for peripheral tissues to do the conversion, of course there must be some T4 to begin with.

Yes, perhaps. And, yes, there does!

Your body cannot function without thyroid hormone in your body. Your stored thyroid hormones will eventually run out and you will get very ill and could put on even more weight. As Heloise said, you probably need more hormone, not less.

Thyroid hormones are essential in the body. If you stop taking your replacement hormones you will become ill, (Edit - unless you mean you have quit armour but gone back to levo) and if a person is without them for long enough they can fall in to a coma and die.

If you are not feeling well on your medicine then post a new question including your most recent blood test results and people will help you to feel better.

Having had thyroid cancer,so no thyroid now, twice I had to stop taking my thyroid medication to either have radioactive iodine or a scan, the second time was only what I can describe as a living hell and I put on 7kgs in less than a week despite not being able to eat much,I took Levothyroxine for a year & try as I did I could only lose a few pounds.....ive been on a combination of levo & Liothyronine since January and ive lost just over 10kgs through healthy eating & exercise...you need your replacement medications you can't function without themX

It's up to you. But with no meds and no thyroid you will gradually become very ill both physically and mentally. There are kinder, faster ways to kill yourself.

It might be that you need T4/T3 not NDT, or that you were just undermedicated. Why not post your last results and let people advise?

You are dosing your meds wrong, which is why they don't work and putting your life at risk..is my opinion.
