I have a couple of large goitres on my thyroid which is running high at the moment and they are causing me breathing problems, I am terrified of surgery and wanted to know if there is any alternative treatment that works quickly?

It depends on the reasons for your goitres, which may be caused by too much or too little thyroid hormone..
A common cause is when low thyroid hormone dictates the pituitary gland constantly works overtime in secreting TSH, to encouraging further thyroid hormone. If this was your cause, then medicating thyroid hormone replacement may shrink your goitres but you advise they are "running high" so perhaps you indicate hyperthyroidism ? ? .....

Goitres that are causing breathing difficulties by pressing on the windpipe (trachea) or the gullet (oesophagus) are usually operated on.
