Hashimotos and taking vitamins.

Hello again everyone. I do hope my profile is now showing up. I have a question though, can anyone please tell me when to take my Vitamin B12 and B complex tablets? I take my levo at approx. 6am in the morning, so when should I take these other ones? Fatigue is hitting me hard, so presume it would be in the morning? Many thanks to anyone who can advise me.

I need leading by the nose again, as I'm just not thinking straight, I lost my lovely Saint Bernard yesterday, so I'm a bit of an emotional wreck.

I take B vitamins with my lunch.

The only thing I've read about B vitamins is they should be taken with food and due to taking iron tablets previously that was the only way to fit them in without risking them ending up not being absorbed.

BTW Sorry about losing your faithful companion.

Thank you bluebug. The one type of B12 is sublingual, so I don't have to eat anything, but the other one I have that complements the B12 does have to be taken with food. It all very confusing for me at the moment, as you can see from my post. Jeez what a mess I'm in. Losing Troy was like losing my right arm.

The thing about taking vitamins and minerals is not to stress over when to take them but to ensure that you adhere to basic guidelines e.g. not taking them near thyroid meds, not taking them near iron supplements.

I'm so sorry you are grieving for your Saint Bernard who died yesterday and it will take some time to come to terms with that.

I take my meds around the same time as you but as most vits/minerals have to be taken with food I take mine at lunchtime, so that nothing interferes with the uptake of my thyroid hormones. As we need a routine so we don't miss a dose.

Thank you shaws. I'm hoping for a miracle with taking these B12's. Just to stay awake would be a relief. As for my Saint? heavens, what a mess I'm in, I just feel so lost, sad and empty.

Are you taking vitamin D?

If not, have you had your levels checked?

Low vitamin D closely related to thyroid and MS

Also have you considered going gluten free?

Both Hashimoto's & MS are auto-immune and more & more medics are suggesting gluten connection.

The fact you also need the Vit B's suggests possible gut/gluten issue too

"The Immune System Recovery Plan" by Susan Blum has lots of useful info on gluten, stress, leaky gut etc

So sorry also to hear about loosing your lovely dog.

SantaMonica2002,

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dogs are coming up to 14 and I'm dreading them becoming ill and finally leaving me.

Clutter, it was awful. I was trying to lift his huge head up and saying to him 'no Troy, no, please don't die on me please' heavens now I'm crying. My Husband lifted me up, as I couldn't breath...I was desperate, he then carried me upstairs and told me to rest, I pleaded with him and my son, don't leave him alone...they didn't. When they could see that he was taking his last breath, they came and got me.....I can't my keyboard now, wow, oh dear...

Thank you SlowDragon. I did have my vitamin D tested, but for reason or other they lumped it together. I was tested for D3 and D2 and the results were 11,4 (75-150), normally they should be separated I know, but this is what I'm looking at right now, and it's not there.

How does a gluten free diet help as well? this is something I'm curious about.

Also, thank you about your kind words about my Saint....going through a hard time here I can tell you.

Humans weren't designed to eat as much gluten as we do now as it is in virtually everything that is a refined manufactured carb or has it in.

In regards to those with Hashimotos - as it is an autoimmune disease you are more likely to have celiac disease or simply issues with your gut which makes you have reactions to gluten. To decrease the chance of this happening going gluten free is recommended.

If you do go gluten free DO NOT replace everything you eat with gluten free stuff brought from supermarkets e.g. gluten free cakes, gluten free pies, gluten free pasta simply because they will contain more sugar, salt and trans-fats. Instead follow the high fat low carb diet principles to cut down on the amount of refined carbs you are eating.
