Overactive or underactive.. please help.

I'm going to post my labs here in a bit, just waiting to have them in my hands.

I went to see my Dr, he tested T.3 T4 & TSH

I recall my tsh was HIGH and the other two were within normal range but still a little on the high side. I know it's hard to answer with out results but I will have them here soon, but my question is I have congential hypothyroidism born with no thyroid. My meds were decreased from 200mg down to 112 and I felt like crap this last month with depression . Dr bumped it up to 125mg. This will be the last time I see him as he is no help. Will start this dosage til my next new endo sees me in Sept. I do recall my tsh being out of range at 12.2. I know drs can't go just based on this test but can you all tell me that this atleast proves my symtoms of fatigue, depression, lack of sleep anxiety. Does this mean I'm underactive or overactive? Meaning do I need more or less. I promise to post up my labs as soon as I get them in my hands today.

Hidden A TSH level of 12.2 is well over any range we see on here and indicatesl hypothyroidism, which would would explain the symptoms you describe.

The others being in the normal range, they could be just one point over the lowest end of the range and still be classed as normal but low Free Ts and high TSH will indicate hypothyroidism.

Hi

It sounds like you are most likely underactive if you TSH is high. If you were well on 200mcg it seems likely that the decrease in dose is responsible for you symptoms.

Unfortunately some doctors DO just go on tests and don't even consider symptoms which is most likely why your dose was reduced in the first place. Unfortunately the tests are not the whole story and there has been recent research that shows that a 'normal' level is different for everyone.

Obviously people will be able to comment better once you have the results but it does sound like the reduced dose was not suiting you at all.

Pink ninja, within a month on this dose I started feeling worse. But he just adjusted to 125mg. Why couldn't he, or could he have bumped me to 150 instead. Would be safe, I mean he did drastically bump me to 112. I've never had a high tsh reading like this in my 36yrs. I'm seeing another endo as he wants me to take 125 for another 6weeks. Then retest.

It sounds like he's a slave to the numbers :( An increase to 150mcg would likely have been fine but I have no medical training so can't say for certain. Given you were previously on 200mcg and that this used to be a fairly ordinary dose, I would be surprised if 150 were too much.
