About the lady in the £61m lottery sindicate? She had been told that she had a tumor the size of a grain of rice. She went to America for surgery where doctors said she would have been dead in 3 years. It was her parathyroid but still a message to us all to look after ourselves and each other!

This sounds a bit over dramatic, if she had hyperparathyroidism it's caused by a benign adenoma not a tumour and people don't die from it, the parathyroid adenoma causes no symptoms, it's the elevated calcium that is the problem.

Many people have lived with hpth for many many years, I had it for at least 10 years before diagnosis and surgery, those who don't want or can't have surgery can take medication to control calcium levels and they carry on living with the adenoma.

There is nothing you can do to prevent HPTH, it just happens.
