Hypothroidism in children

My child's test (age 4) showed an under active thyroid. The Paedetrician advised that it be re tested many months later and the result was normal. Has anyone else had this experience? Should it be re tested? Concerned as my child's growth has continued to slow and we have developmental issues which I have read can be caused by this condition.
