Undiagnosed Hypothyroidism.

About eight years ago I posted on this site about my problem. I had loads of suggestions and advice. Unfortunately I still find that I am banging my head on a brick wall. I though I had a chance 18 months ago when I saw a consultant with a back problem and one of his registrars told me that the tingling in the front of my thigh was caused by either diabetes or an under active thyroid. As I don't have diabetes he suggested I see an endocrinologist. Once again the consultant vetoed this. I am now in a position where I can afford to go private. Can anyone recommend an endocrinologist somewhere in the midlands and what tests would I need to have done? I am so fed up with feeling like death warmed up. I also went on the Thyroid uk Research program 2008 and had all the tests done but have not heard what the outcome was. Janet.

Hi MrsPage3 email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk and ask for the list of thyroid friendly doctors/endos. When you decide on who you want to see ask on the forum if anyone has any experience of them.

As for tests, you need

TSH

FT4

FT3

TPO antibodies

TG antibodies

plus

Vit D

B12

Ferritin

Folate

You can actually get these done in one test privately if you want through Blue Horizon, their Thyroid Plus Eleven covers all of them and it's an at home fingerprick test bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/e... and it might be cheaper than paying the endo for them.

MrsPage3,

You can order a thyroid test from Blue Horizon or Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin... The tests are finger prick home tests. Ideally, order TSH, FT4, FT3 and thyroid antibodies but Blue Horizon thyroid profile 11 will also include some vitamin and mineral tests.

Post the results and ranges (figures in brackets after results) in a new question and members will advise.

Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of member recommended endocrinologists. You can ask Louise about the research programme but I don't know how far back TUK's records go.
