Replacing amalgam fillings - Hashi's and other autoimmune conditions

My dentist wants to replace my amalgam fillings as they are deteriorating. He is planning to use Herculite XRV, venus flow composite or a glass ename cement??? Has anyone had experience of what is best for us Hashi's sufferers. He'll be doing the whole rubber dam thingy.

He needs to protect you and himself from mercury dust with way more than a rubber dam! My dentist who is biological puts air over my nose, gives me charcoal pills to swallow, uses two suctions, and both he and the assistant use oxygen masks. Plus the air in the room is vented out, specifically made to keep from breathing in the dust. Your health won't improve if you just breathe in mercury dust back in! soundhealthdentist.com/educ...

You have to find the dentist who will take care of the mercury you breathe, etc. Sometimes, and it's like with asbestos, it's more dangerous to start removing it than leave the amalgam where it is, IF it's not going to be done properly.

Halinka,

I have always lived a healthy life style and practised loads of yoga/mediation but had thyroid meds that wouldn't work, high antibodies that refused to lower and a horrid taste in my mouth.

Last year I had 12-13 hours in the dentist chair to remove all my amalgam and replace with seven inlays (porcelain), a filling (composite), 3 crowns and a bridge strengthened with zirconium. The inlays replaced what should have been fillings but many of my teeth disintegrated when the mercury was removed as the fillings had been so huge .... a result from too many sweets & a lack of good childhood dental hygiene ! ! .... (Lesson learnt & my own [grown up] kids teeth are immaculate .. )

My dentist used runner dams, masks, two suction tubes and oxygen (separate airline) and the treatment lasted over a period of about 3 months.

I chelated with advice from a nutritionist using DMSA and binding with Psyllium Husk & Apple Pectin. This was all supported with NAC, Milk Thistle, MetaLipoate 300, Celapro, Cal-Mag Citrate, Selenium, Zinc , Vit C, Liposomal Glutathione and all other thyroid supporting nutrients such as B vits, etc as chelating not only removes the mercury but many other essential vits//minerals. DMSA is harsh so I also supported the gut with glutamine, slippery elm & marshmellow and loads of probiotics which I continue to take.

The protocol is scientific using sups known to detoxify by transporting the toxic metals from inside the cells, to be bound and eliminated in urine & faeces so avoiding reabsorption. . Also to replace all lost nutrients and and protect against the damage done by DMSA.

I chelated for over six months and gave up due to being fed up with the copious amounts of pill taking and the restrictive regime but also because I feel better (than I did) as thyroid hormones are working. I have yet to perform another Genova Toxic Element Clearance Profile but think a lack of horrid hypothyroidism symptoms speak louder than any blood test but ironically I still have the ( bl****) mouth problem.

Many tolerate mercury fine but those of us with big MTHFR impairments should NEVER have mercury fillings in the first place & removal needs to be done with knowledgable care and a chelation program put in place. I constantly read of people having mercury removed in a reckless manner with no thought for ridding the body of this dangerous substance after and suffering years & years of illness.

I do not know about the your composite resins and can't remember or locate info on mine atm although know they are BPA free.

Good luck.

Are you sure your huge fillings were the result of poor hygiene and sweets? When I was a child, dentists were paid for fillings but not for routine checkups, so you always got your teeth drilled. I was not allowed sweets and brushed after every meal, but every visit meant at least one more filling (without anaesthetic in those days, and a spanking for stealing banned sweets from somewhere). As a student, I had my first dental X-ray, according to that dentist, the holes in my teeth just looked like drill holes with no sign that they were filling "natural" cavities. So I have a mouth full of mercury because the NHS didn't pay dentists for checkups.

OMG thats awful AOTN,

No, my teeth were bad because I did eat a lot of sweets but another reason I believe I suffered these dentals issues was the childhood ill health (like many of us) ...... the usual swollen lymph node stuff// constant fatigue and low immune system. Probably the startings of Hashi all those years ago.

Me too! The ride up and down in the chair was a 'treat' afterwards. When my dentist retired and his brother took over my care I didn't need any more fillings. I don't think I've had a filling since except to replace his bad work.

This happened to me too. My childhood dentist was great with kids, but he had large bills to pay for a big mill conversion in my Grandma's village. I was one of many patients called in to have my teeth drilled, and then the fillings replaced regularly. He did a great deal of damage that I'm still trying to sort out 40 years later.

Still have some huge amalgams, but current dentist won't use anything more than a rubber dam to remove them - and that is listed as a private charge on top of the NHS fee.

Yes, I read low thyroid hormone can effect kiddies teeth more than adults because they are still growing.

Hello, Just to let you all know, I've done a bit of research and will be using something called Venus Pearl. It does not contain BPAs, which I have read can also aggravate thyroid problems (though that is only my reading, I don't really know for sure).
