It's difficult to comment as you've not given any information nor is there anything in your profile.

How long have you been hypo? What dose of medication are you on? Have you had Vit D, B12, ferritin and folate tested? If so, what are the results? All Vits and mins need to be optimal for thyroid hormone to work. What are your thyroid test results - post results with reference ranges.

If you are optimally medicated then symptoms should subside and you should be able to lose the excess weight.

If you post all your test results then members can make suggestions.

Sorry Hidden that isn't enough information for anyone to offer any suggestions. If you could answer the questions I asked in my first post, particularly giving any test results with reference ranges, then members can comment.

Haven't got that information.

You don't know how long you've been hypo?

You're having B12 injections but you don't know your test result?

For any chance of anyone offering any suggestions then more information is needed.

If you haven't got your test results then the best thing to do is ask your surgery for a print out of any and all tests they have done. You are legally entitled to this information under the Data Protection Act.

If you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism then you will have had thyroid function tests done. Ask for the results of all these, with reference ranges, and members can then see whether you are optimally medicated.

Ask your GP to do Vit D, B12, ferritin and folate tests if not already done. Also ask for thyroid antibody tests. Then post results on here for members to comment.

If your vitamins and minerals are not optimal there's a good chance your thyroid meds won't work properly and you will experience hypo symptoms including inability to lose weight.

If your doctor won't do them then you can get them done privately through Blue Horizon for a reasonable cost.

Unfortunately without this information nobody can make any suggestions or give you any advice.

Once you manage to get the dosage right and are within a range that allows your metabolic rate to become more normal compared to sluggish, the weight should slowly come off.

However you can help yourself with regards to the weight by eating healthily (lots of non carbohydrate veg and measuring out portion sizes/calories) and eating what you would on a daily basis into five small meals rather than three. This helps speed up the metabolism.

Also (and I hear the groans) exercise! It will help massively and I won't lie to you it's doubly tough on us hypo folks as we don't have the energy but you just have to muster the energy and do it. Brisk walking with sweating is a great start, half an hour three times a week.

It can be done, I used to weigh 90kg before I was diagnosed and I am now down to 70kg. (Cutting out alcohol helped massively). I walk two hours each day with the dog and swim 5km three times a week. It's a struggle for sure but I force myself no matter and at the end of the day, it's not killing me! I have a goal to reach and I will be buggered if this thyroid diesese is going to stop me achieving my goals.

Yes it is hard to lose weight when you have thyroid problems . I haven't had all these tests either but I lost it on a low calorie diet and lost 4 stones, basically it was high protein low carbs and drank 2 litres of water a day.

I have struggled with my weight for years but am finding a website called myfitnesspal very helpful. I have lost 9 pounds and am eating plenty with a bit of extra exercise. The website helps you calculate how much you need to eat. You put in your weight and age and how much you want to lose each week and it helps you keep a track of your calorie intake. It told me I could eat 2330 calories a week and lose 1 pound a week which seems very generous but it is working for me. I wouldnt recommend trying to lose more than a pound a week and it is important to get your thyroid meds at optimal so please get your blood results from GP and post for people to advise.
