Hi, I am new here. Been taking Levothyroxine for 30 years. Not feeling too great recently, usual symptoms. Been reading about Natural Dessicated Thyroxine and wondered if anyone here uses it and can tell me about it please? Is it easy to get your GP to give it? Txs

Welcome to the forum, Bolshi.
If you post your recent thyroid results with the ranges (figures in brackets after results) members will advise whether you are optimally medicated on Levothyroxine. If you have blood test results for ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate post them too.
Natural dessicated thyroid is a combination thyroxine (T4) and T3 medication. T4 and T3 is derived from whole pig thyroid. NDT isn't licensed for UK use and although it can be prescribed on a named patient basis few doctors will take the personal responsibility involved in prescribing an unlicensed drug and they are not obliged to do so. Consequently, most UK patients using NDT have private prescriptions or buy online and self medicate.
