Mandy72,
I suspect that the reason you were advised to increase dose was due to TSH being 3.2. I hope your endo realises that FT4 will be low when taking T3 only. Not sure whether FT3 is ordered by your endo or not, but the only time my TSH wasn't suppressed the lab didn't test FT3.
You could write to your endo to ask for the ranges where they weren't included.
Free T4 5 (5.6 - 21)
What an utterly ridiculous reference range! So, this is how the NHS is going to save money is it? They are expanding the reference ranges until even a corpse would be normal?
Imagine someone on levo only with a Free T4 level of 5.6 being told they are normal!
I actually wonder if more and more people treating themselves is going to backfire on those who don't and who stick with levo.
If you have a large group of people who are taking T3 only, NDT only, levo only, or a combination of T3, NDT and/or levo in various proportions, the idea of a standard reference range is totally unworkable. The pattern of results would be different for different groups. You can't force someone on levo to be treated according to a reference range calculated with lots of people on T3 only in the sample.
Realistically they will have to treat people according to symptoms. The alternative is to ban T3 and NDT so there reference ranges make a tiny bit of sense again. I think I can guess which one they will go for.
