I'm not sure if I should bring this up..it may be too much information...plus it's rather embarrassing, but I've had chronic diarrhea for years and years...have been tested for everything from giardia to whatever. Anybody have any suggestions or can relate???

Hi, bluebug - Yes...I had one a few months ago, but it was because I could get food past my esphogus (SP??). Don't think the doctor went down any further than that. That's a good thought...I'll ask him about this when I see him on the 13th. Thank you.
I've never even heard of this, but I'm going to study/research it right now! If I could find the reason for this awful condition, it would literally change my life. I'm not able to leave the house until the afternoon due to this stupid thing! Thanks so much!
I've just been reading about Crohn's disease, and my symptoms fit it perfectly. I'm going to my dr. on 1/2/18 and am going to ask him to do a test to figure this out. It's called a SeHCAT scan and measures bile secretion. You to in twice in a week or 2. Then, if they find out it is bile secretion, the doctor, I hope, will put me on a statin drug, that knocks this crap on it's arse. I will report back after my doctor's appt. and tell you all what he said and if he will do this test! Good luck to all of you..I know you are suffering!
Could it be food related? My friend suffered diarrhoea most days, being caught short in shops and all sorts. We talked it through, she told me how much she loves porridge. I asked how often she had it and she said 'most days'. I suggested she noted what happened on the days she didn't have porridge and low and behold she didn't have diarrhoea. She tested milk but it wasn't that, it was the porridge.
My late husband also had it and he was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.
Have you had a colonoscopy with biopsies taken? After many years of problems I had this done and I have microscopic colitis. It doesn't show up on a colonoscopy unless biopsies are taken.
I had a colonoscopy done a few years ago, and they found a small polyp, but the prep is so horrid, I just cannot get myself to do another one. Thank you.
Can you remember after all this time - did your diarrhoea improve after you did the bowel prep for the colonoscopy? Did you get a few days with no problems?
There is a condition called "overflow diarrhoea" or "bypass diarrhoea".
It might only be obvious if you do a huge clear out - like you would for a colonoscopy - and realise that you are ejecting "rocks" with the watery stuff. You might then have a few days where things work better for a while, until impaction occurs, and then the diarrhoea begins again.
I had chronic diarrhoea for a number of years and tried lots of different treatment and diets. I went to see Dr. P about problems with T4 and he told me that I had T4 toxicosis and that can cause diarrhoea. Once I changed to T3 only the diarrhoea cleared up.
I have had same problem for years, twice I have tried to have a colonoscopy but it was too painful. Even though I take strong pain relief for Arthritis I still get diarrhea , I just have to be careful what I eat. Instead of further investigations the consultant gave me a syrup to take at bedtime, sorry cant remember the name.
Try taking a spoon of diatomaceous earth with water (it's supposed to be like drinking mud, but works for someone I know), or arrowroot powder.
Some people have issues with nightshade plants, so feel better removing tomatoes, augbergines, & potatoes from their diet, also, alliums: onions, garlic, leeks. Others have intolerance to wheat, rather than gluten alone, so they're ok with barley.
I've read a few articles on the FODMAP diet, which is extreme, but supposedly very effective for IBS.
I find my digestion is less erratic since in started eating kefir every day.
Hi - my husband had diarrhoea and a dickey tummy for five years. He thinks it started after he drank some suspect water in an old house. After suffering for five years and having to rush to the loo after eating he finally got diagnosed with h pylori by a functional medicine practitioner. Previous to that he'd had all sorts of tests and colonoscopies etc. to no avail. I think you have to send a sample to a really good American lab. He cured himself by taking a course of Paraguard which is made of herbs and by taking a spoonful of coconut oil every day! He is the last person to go for 'New Age' medicine but it really worked for him and he still takes the coconut oil! Not sure if this applies to you but might help???
Also diarrhea is a known symptom of zinc deficiency, which can occur during iron supplementation. I suspect it may be one of the substances we malabsorb. might be worth checking the symptoms of that and maybe trying some zinc supps.
My mother had the classic symtoms, including lack of appetite. I would expect symptoms to be distorted by comorbid hypo though.
I, too, have had chronic diarrhea for years and years, as far as I can figure since 2000 or so...maybe even before that. It's the worst thing in the World as far as I'm concerned and is debilitately. I cannot leave my house into the afternoon, and now it's gotten so bad that i have to wear Depends to bed just in case. I've had a colonscopy and all the other tests under the Sun with NO RESULTS! Just venting here and so sorry to hear that you are suffering, too.
Well..I'm now reporting in after having my physical with my doctor on 1/2/18. Told him about my horrible diarrhea and he put me on a statin called Welchol. I've been on it since 1/2/18...started the first dose in the afternoon. It's now 1/5/18 and I've had NO DIARRHEA whatsoever!! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I had researched this before I went to the doctor and told him about the statins. Please ask your doctors to prescribe a statin for you..I bet it will help!
It's now March 2018 and I have only had a couple of incidents of diarrhea since starting the treatment with Welchol. Six tablets a day and I'm good! Just wanted to let you all know that it's still working and wanted to pass on the information in order to perhaps help someone else with the same problem!
