Blood transfusion

Thinking aloud, I wonder if blood transfusions have been tried on Hashimoto sufferers. I read something recently about blood transfusions in mice, and how it restored cognitive abilities and immune system.

Not quite sure what you are saying/suggesting. Are you thinking that if sufferers get 'normal' blood from a donor they will feel better and improve? Logic tells me it would only be short term. The average red blood cell has a life of 120 days so that at any time the blood in circulation has ones of various stages in their life and so after that time any transfused have gone. On the other hand let's say this works. Well there are barely enough donors to keep up with the needs as it is. Cancer treatment needs such a lot of blood and then accidents etc and transfused blood as I've already said doesn't have a long shelf life.

Lovely thought but even if it was possible it would be unable to meet demand.

Thanks, my lack of medical knowledge shows. I was hoping that it might be a route to boosting one's immune system, and possibly reversing the disease. Some hope eh?

When you donate blood each donation is broken down into parts. This means that unlike in the mice experiment no one receives exactly what is donated but just the part they need.

I see if I can find link from one of the blood donation services with more info.
