Elvera111,
I suggested a couple of months ago that low-normal TSH with low FT4 indicates secondary hypothyroidism which your GP ought to consider. Secondary hypothyroidism is usually due to pituitary dysfunction which should be investigated in endocrinology in case there are sex and growth hormone deficiencies. Levothyroxine replaces the low thyroid hormone.

thanks for prompt relpy..ihad pituarity problems after birth of my second child. high prolactin..it was sorted and had nomore problems..i am 64 yrs now maybe the menopause has something to do with it.
i did have an adrenal shut down 25 yrs ago and have been on a maintenance dose of 6mg of prednisolone ever since.ihave just been on wiki and read this.. thyroid hormones may cause an acute adrenal crisis by increasing the metabolic clearance of glucocortoids. so that is a worry if they put me on levothyroxine. at the moment i am struggling with air hunger and heavy heart beat on standing..my pulse is going from 68 to 101 just on standing..iam very sedenrty tho because of chronic fatigue.
ihave never had body hair which always made me think something was not quite right
and another thing.. haa ha..i get worried about nutrients in my body because i eat so little food due to huge belly ..my arms legs are so thin. but i am scared to eat in case belly gets any bigger.i look 9 months pregnant....
Not eating is going to make your problem worse. Your 'huge' belly has nothing to do with what you eat, I don't suppose. But, by not eating enough calories, you are compromising your conversion of T4 to T3, and making yourself more hypo. The definition of hypo is low T3 - something they never test!
So, you should eat more - but nothing processed, fresh food, with plenty of fat. And ask your doctor to test vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin. Those are the basics, and must be tested before supplementing in any form. You can work out what you need to take from there. Just post the results on here, and let us have a look!
thanks. . had another result .free t3 is 3,0 pmol/L range 2.80 - 7.0
i have diverticulitus and i think it was caused by never eating fat. so now i do include butter in my diet but just a scraping. i never eat processed meat because of allergies. i have been supplementing with vitamin d and b for years via a prescription from doctor. because i am at risk of osteosporosis. i am still waiting for folate iron and ferriten results.
my cholesterol always comes back high. as does my b12, mcv and total white cell count
