t3?: hi have been started on t3 due to been low... - Thyroid UK
t3?
No, I think it's far too low to cause an side effect. This is an excerpt but I don't think it includes UK T3 it's about equal to 20mcg of levo:
Dr. Lowe: The physician should call a pharmacy and request the leaflet given to patients when they pick up a Cytomel (T3) prescription. The physician would learn, as the patient leaflet on Cytomel explains, "POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: NO COMMON SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED with proper use of this medication." Other than Nystatin, he probably will find that no other drug he might prescribe is as free from adverse effects as T3.

P.s. is that your daily dose of thyroid hormones 5mcg of T3 and no levothyroxine?
Gosh that's such a good article, many thanks. I REALLY have to get his books. Does anyone know if the "Thyroid Hormone Resistance" Dr Lowe refers to is the same as reverse T3?
Unfortunately for us Dr Lowe died prematurely through an accident and his website is now archived and I always hope it wont be removed.
Dr Lowe didn't believe too much in Reverse T3 but he did say that some people have 'Resistance to Thyroid Hormones' (in particular with people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia). He said the only way they should be treated is with T3 and usually they were extremely high doses as it is the active hormone and doesn't require conversion like T4 .(levothyroxine).
I shall look at a couple of hi links which might be helpful.
No 5mcg is barely anything, you are possibly over thinking this. Are you taking any t4 with it? If so how much?
Under all the circumstances quoted on here, you are fortunate to have been prescribed T3. Who prescribed it for you (GP or endo) or are you buying it yourself?
There is info online regarding T3 Cytomel that they are now, right now...using gluten as a binder in it! Please, everyone check this news!!! it is all over FB thyroid & Hashimoto's groups!
I've just read your profile. I couldn't believe what I was reading. You've had your thyroid removed and yet you are currently taking 5mcg T3 and nothing else?
Your endocrinologist needs to be shot! You can't survive on just 5mcg T3. No wonder you feel disorientated.
5mcg T3 is equivalent to about 15mcg levothyroxine.
Your TSH was over 10 in January, which shows you were horribly under-treated even then. And now you are even worse off.
Does your endo have any kind of treatment plan that he/she has told you about? If he/she has I'd love to know what it is.
On a more constructive note, have you ever had vitamins and minerals tested? Do you have gut problems? Have you ever had a saliva test done for cortisol and DHEA? Have you ever had any tests for sex hormone levels?
I think your first plan should be to change your endocrinologist as soon as possible. The one you have is completely incompetent and very dangerous to your health.
I agree with humanbean!! Your endo needs to be shot! I have a thyroid and I was taking 62.5mcg of T3 in 3 doses / day. (I'm currently transitioning to NDT...)
5mcg of T3 with no thyroid is NOTHING!!! No wonder you feel rubbish, you poor thing! Hugs
5Mg of T3 is not enough at all. My goodness you must feel absolutely horrid. You can request not to see a particular endo, specialist, consultant ect and have them write a note of it on your hospital records, write a letter to your hospital and explain why, they will put it in your notes and change your endo for you.
