This may be an unusual question for a thyroid forum, but my hormone doctor in Belgium prescribed the drug Finasteride EG for me. It is normally prescribed for men with an enlarged prostate, and it even says in the package leaflet it should never be taken by women. However, my doctor put me on it because of embarrassing hair growth (hirsutism), especially on my face. I am supposed to take 2.5 mg daily (half a pill). This article mentions Finasteride EG and its use for hirsutism in women. I am tempted to try it (I have not dared so far).
If I were In your shoes I'd be on the phone to the doctor who prescribed them asking for more Information ie; What are the side effects for women ? Has your Doctor prescribed them to women before ? Can your Doctor help you to make contact with those women who have used this medication so you might be able to discuss pros & Cons. I personally wouldn't take anything that clearly stated it was not for female use until I'd done a good bit of research. You might end up replacing one problem for something more serious. Good luck & hope you seek out & find the answers you need.
That is just why I have not taken them so far; I just don't want to end up with more serious problems in the end...and, it seems that, in the US, doctors cannot prescribe this drug for that use, as it is not approved for use by women...!
I actually took the pills to the pharmacy, in a bag, with other expired drugs, for destruction or whatever they do with them...I just did not feel comfortable taking drugs not intended for women.
