Newly pregnant

Hi everyone I've just found out that after 5 years trying we've got pregnant which is just fantastic. I had a thyroid blood test on Wednesday and the results aren't back yet .i was feeling symptomatic and I have a feeling I would have had a Levo increase. I know usually they increase Levo anyway when your pregnant but there were no doctors available for phone appt this afternoon and I don't know what I should be doing. Increase myself or wait for advice. I think it needed upping before the pregnancy and I don't want to lose this baby. Wondering if I should nudge myself up maybe just 25 a day till Monday? Xx

Hi misswinky34,

Congratulations on your good news. I was married for 10 years before any babies but went on to have 2 healthy sons, now grown up.

Take it easy.

Congratulations! MissWinky.

NICE recommend increasing dose by 25-50mcg when pregnancy is confirmed to ensure good foetal development and keep TSH in the low-normal range 0.4-2.0.

Do you think I should start with an extra 25 with a pill cutter just until Monday when j can get the blood results? or talk to doctor?

Thanks clutter

Well, as Clutter says NICE  recommend an increase.   However, we are not doctors on this forum so none of us can tell you what to do..... You have to form your own opinions and make your own decisions.

We would advise caution if you suggested a really silly idea, but none of us can actually tell you to increase meds.    If we did and it went horribly wrong,  i believe you could sue......

I was told by an endocrinologist to up my thyroxine immediately ( by 50% of my dose I think) if I became pregnant.  He said the Gp may not know this.  Have the guidelines with you for your appointment on Monday.

Hi

I increased my dose by 25mcg as soon as I knew I was pregnant. Have a look at the nice guidelines. Congratulations.

Congratulations! Just don't be fobbed of if what they are telling you is different to what you are thinking.
