Can anyone point me in the direction of a paper of a double-blind test of a group with hyothyroidism to to test for preference/perceived effectiveness? I'm just about to see a new endo and I need some ammo!
Thanks, Mars

The effectiveness of what Aspen ? ? ..
Your Endocrinologist might not be willing to prescribe NDT. He may be willing to add some T3 to your T4 but it has to be the correct combination which is detailed on page 80 - top left hand para.

This you can give to your GP, and despite Dr Lowe sending 3 yearly reminders for a response to this exemplary article, there was absolutely no response from any of these organisations:-

That is also a reason many of us suffer. Big pharma has been successful in excluding the 'rivals' and expanding their huge profits with additional medications for remaining symptoms.
Many people do feel fine on levothyroxine but it is the thousands that don't who need at least to trial alternatives.
Thank you for your reply. I self-medicate NDT, but that turned out to be not the main issue. I had a blood cortisol day-curve recently which turned out to vindicate my self-medicating (under the guidance of Dr Peatfield) hydrocortisone. My cortisol is at Addison's levels, as I have been telling them for the last 3 years with the evidence of a salivary test previous endos had refused to even look at. It looks like we may finally be singing from the same song-sheet. A cautious yay! is in order
This is about the only proper trial you'll find - and even it has some problems.

It was much commented-on here at the time it was published.
Hidden I think you might find it interesting if you have not already seen it.
Thanks for replying. That wasn't the one I had in mind but it is interesting!
Sorry Aspen, I am now confused!
I thought the title of the paper I linked to was quite close to what you asked for.
Desiccated thyroid extract compared with levothyroxine in the treatment of hypothyroidism: a randomized, double-blind, crossover study.
