Have I got this right?Allow an hour either side of taking T3 & NDT with no liquid except water? If drinking tea with milk,is an hour either side enough of a gap?

What about herbal teas without green tea?How long a gap either side of dosing do you consider long enough?

No, you can take T3 or NDT as soon as you get up with an approx hour's gap before you have breakfast.

If you took your dose at bedtime, you'd have to have at least 2 hours gap if you had eaten before bed.

You take meds with one glass of water.

Naomi8,

Take thyroid meds with water 1 hour before or 2 hours after tea/coffee and food.

Thanks Clutter-was hoping a herbal tea without tea or milk didn't count!

If your digestion system is slow (as is usual with hypo) we might need longer than 2 hours after a meal containing protein so that nothing interferes with the uptake of hormones.

I am managing OK re food, meds & supplements like iron & calcium.I just wondered if it was OK to drink a herbal tea inside that time,if it wasn't green tea

Even if you take NDT sublingualy ? I thought it was OK in the that case to eat & drink closer ? Does anybody know otherwise I've been slipping up daily with my afternoon dose !

Can you be sure that ALL the thyroid hormone is absorbed through the mouth rather than being swallowed?

Indeed, can we be absolutely sure that ANY is absorbed in the mouth? It has been argued that the molecules are too large to be absorbed - while others insist it is possible.

Mmm not sure now then , I thought it was more absorbable that way as it wasn't relying on being absorbed in the stomach .

even if no hormone is absorbed in your mouth the sublingual action starts the digestion process so probably increases the absorption speed.

I was led to believe that was the case too and as my digestion isn't great asumed it was the best way for me to take it !

I eat my dinner about 6 or 7 pm,  dont really snack in the evening....      and i generally go to bed about 1 am after a cup of hot chocolate...  The 40 calorie stuff....     So, its  probably   A good few hours since food and tp 10 minutes after a drink....

If i snack its usually nuts or cheese...

But isn't the drink made of milk? Surely that drink is going to have some effect on the hormone.

Dunno....  I just open a sachet and pour in boiling water....    It has some dried milk in it but not a lot.....   I figure if the ndt can stand my stomach acid it can probably conquer that much milk.....    It doesnt seem to have any bad effect......

Well, it's not a question of withstanding your stomach acid. If your take thyroid hormone and some form of calcium at the same time, the hormone binds with the calcium and becomes unavailable for the body to use. That would be like take your morning dose with a cup of milky tea. Which we're always advised not to do. But, I suppose that if you've been doing it that way for a long time, your dose has been adjusted to allow for it. The key is consistancy.

Suppose so....  I am on 3 grains.   Am tired at the monent though.  Did 6 hours of digging up plants, moving stones and building a low wall, came home, had sone food then did some gardening at home and  then went to my allotment for a few hours.     :-)

One of the ladies i was gardening for this morning has graves and TED.    She was telling me  how since rai some 15 years ago she has constantly been on different dosages of levothyroxine and never feels well.   She still  has  tests every 3 months and sees the local endo at least twice a year and adjusts her dose.   Its been down to 50 and is currently 100mcg one day and 125 the next.       I was telling her how i got better after seeing the same endo.   Mainly because i decided i could do a better job if i self medicated.    :-).
