Does anyone know if you can buy levo in Tenerife.  I am going there on holiday soon and am on 75mcg levo at the moment but because my tsh is now coming into normal range he says I don't need it and had to practically force him to give me my last lot, this in spite of feeling better on it and having had RAI treatment and nodules

Surely if you stop med your bloods will go back out of range again? Isn't that what would happen to us all? My bloods are currently in range. But if I stopped my ends they would very quickly go back out of range. Am I missing something here

exactly that's what I told my gp - I had to reason this out with him.  To think I used to think doctors knew everything about health but when it comes to the thyroid they are clueless or they view it as unimportant

I am ordering T3 online from Greece. I don't need prescription, not even for customs since Greece is in EU.

Wow, so much about EU. It's obviously falling apart, if it ever existed.

Thyroidnodules,

I think Levothyroxine is prescription only in Spain and the Canaries.

Your GP is incredibly clueless.  Your thyroid levels are in range because you are taking Levothyroxine.  Try to see another GP at your practice.  If necessary change GP practice. 75mcg is a very low dose for someone who has had their thyroid ablated.  Most people need TSH 1.0 or lower with FT4 in the upper range to feel well on Levothyroxine.

I know but you cant reason with these people.  where I live you  have to more or less go to the nearest to where you live besides they are roughly the same everywhere,  My tsh went from 4.7 down to 3.5 and because that was "in range" he said I didn't need another prescription.  I told him it was getting better because I was on medication but I felt I should go up to 75 levo (I had discussed this with my endo at my last hospital app) - my gp went a bit quiet and then agreed to give me the 75 - I only have a two month supply so I know I am going to have a battle with him every time - my gp surgery is in chaos - its very hard to see a doctor - everything is done over the telephone except the actual blood test which is the nurses job.  Don't worry though as because I am feeling better Ihave the energy to fight with them and I will be assertive - thank you for your comments

Thyroidnodules,

See whether you can persuade your endo to write to your GP recommending Levothyroxine dose increases until TSH is 1.0 or lower.

I have bought in Tenerife. A few years ago €2 for25 mg 100 you go to chemist and ask. Don't know price now

Hi, I spent 9 months in gran canaria about three years ago. I just took my empty box of levo into a chemist and they just gave me enough for 3 months at a time, which came to about £5. That was with my meds for endometriosis too!

I didn't need a prescription either. I've since foind out I should've taken less levo when in a hot climate. Have a great holiday. :-)

Your last point isimportant  my situation is the opposite.I found i was full of energy when i was in La Gomera last May.I need more T4 in cold weather but GP will not prescribe.

in reply to Treepie

That's what I'm saying. On thyroid uk website they say to take less in a hot climate as it reacts to thyroxine and you'd feel hyper and take more in a cold climate. Maybe you felt you had more energy because you were slightly hyper? If not, then maybe you were undermedicated initially. The information I've read says that levo reacts in an unstable manner according to the light, temperature and humidity. But we are all different and probably can all respond differently. Have a good day. :-)

Hello thyroid nodules.

Long shot but do you know anyone going to Far east. I visit Hong Kong and Thailand a lot and you can by Levo from any pharmacy for as little as £3 for a month, (25mcg)no prescription required.
