Are there warning signs to look out for if you have Hashimoto's disease? Can you switch from hypo to hyper n vice versa quickly/randomly? If so what is the best course of action? Thanks

How do you know when you switch from hypo to hyper with Hashimoto's?

Personally l get very, very hungry, itchy, have fine tremours, vivid dreams/nightmares.
There are crossover symptoms for hypo/hyper I find, e.g. palpertations and tiredness but the above are my defining hyper symptoms!

I'm always tired have shakes and palpitations so wouldn't know what to look out for
Ah Okay :0( It's bloody miserable isn't it?
I don't have the shakes but fine tremours: if I put my hand out, it trembles and I can't stop it.
Why do you think you may be hyper? What's making you ask (this sounds like an abrupt question but it honestly isn't)? Sometimes awareness that you may be hyper just creeps up on you a little and the overlapping symptoms can be confusing. It's hard. Sometimes when you're hyper you can have the trots for example and unable to stand heat. xxx

I was told last week I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis n both my GP and an endo he spoke to doubled my dose of levo to 100mcg. So I'm hypo at the moment and having bloods done every 2 weeks to monitor me. I just wondered if I'd feel different if I turned from hypo to hyper and how it is managed? My GP says he's concerned and wants to monitor me closely but he's on holiday now for 2 weeks so relying on the nurse n other gp's who I'm not sure will be as helpful or supportive. I think sometimes we can help our selves if we know what to look for!
MissFG,
Before I was medicated Hashi's made me feel mostly hyper but eventually I felt as though I was swinging between hyper and hypo within hours. I was neither because thyroid levels were euthyroid but I felt dreadful.
Signs of Levothyroxine overmedication can be palpitations, tremors (particularly hands when arms are outstretched), warm moist hands, irritability, anxiety, sweating, loose bowels and intolerance to heat.
Signs of a Hashi flare up may be some or all of the above, a feeling of thyroid or throat swelling and tenderness which may cause pain and difficulty swallowing, dizziness and nausea, joint and muscle pain, feeling fluey and generally feeling unwell and rundown. If symptoms persist for several weeks it may be helpful to reduce dose temporarily but once the flare up subsides, having reduced dose, you will probably start feeling hypo until you increase dose again. There's not much point in adusting dose if a Hashi flare last days rather than weeks as frequent adjustments are destabilising.

I think we're all very different in the way it affects us. I've had Hashi's most of my life - only I didn't know it was Hashi's. With hindsight, I can see those Hyper swings as the times when I started to lose weight for no particular reasons, suddenly had bags of energy, felt incredibly well. Unfortunately, I only had three of those periods in my whole life, and they lasted for about one to two years each.
I Don't think anything bad is going to happen to you during the two weeks your endo is away. Silly man has scared you, hasn't he! Why do doctors do that?!?! To be honest, I'm amazed he's taking it that seriously. The attitude of most doctors is a shrug, and 'nothing I can do about it, just take your Levo and get on with it' sort of thing. So, I wouldn't worry that much, if I were you.
Looking for trembling when outstretching your arms is a very basic classical test for hyperthyroidism. Like gg I agree with the losing weight for no particular reason is also a strong indicator of hyper. , that happened to me during a wonderful period of hyper. (I am hypo due to total thyroidectomy following Th cancer 8 years ago).
I was also interested in H.Apples's recording of vivid dreams/nightmares, that happened to me also and I didn't associate it with thyroid meds at the time. I had this very intense, vivid dream of an Arabian night with Osama bin Laden! I remember waking up in the morning thinking, "What the Hell was that all about!"
i start with headaches , then tremors the shakes in my hands. twitching around my face and body. can not sleep , cant eat
