Hi there, I was reading the leaflet that came with my t3 and it says to be taken as one dose. I'm doing only 2 doses now. But would like to do one dose, but scared I'll have too much of a high peak and have heart attack. Just uncertain. I need to read, but anyone else ok with single full dose of T3.
Jobeth, all these scare tactics seem to be put out - not by patients - but by those who want us to stay on levothyroxine.
I had awful palpitations with levo and was in and out of the A&E and sometimes by ambulance.
With T3, my body and heart is completely calm and I take my dose once a day.
The T3 may peak in the blood within a few hours but I feel nothing at all. The benefit of one daily dose is that you have a life. If the dose suits you you don't feel unwell. T3 has to saturate all of our receptor cells and then that one dose lasts for for between one and three days,
This statement makes a fact perfectly clear: When used sensibly, T3 is extraordinarily safe among prescribed drugs. When I say extraordinarily safe, I’m comparing T3 with drugs such as the amitriptyline which your rheumatologist prescribes for you. Below is a list of potential harmful effects of amitriptyline. This list comes from the Physician’s Desk Reference, 53rd edition, Medical Economics Company, Inc., Montvale, 1999, page 3418.
The only problem you may have if the dose is too low or too high and if high, you just miss next day's dose and lower the following one.
I take my dose once daily too - you then forget you are hypo at all, if it works for you. You can get on with life without being obsessed with how you can recover your health if you've had a disastrous time with levo.
1 x dose is probably fine for 10mcg-20mcg. Taking more than that in one dose probably means you will probably be temporarily overdosed for up to 5 hours. Splitting 20mcg+ daily dose into 2 or 3 doses smooths the peaks and troughs which occur when you take T3.

Wow, I've heard you and someone else say this before!
I'm still taking 12.5 mcg split into 5 times per day [one at bedtime] - just with having an arrhythmia [too long undiagnosed, I believe!] kind of scares me. That is so reassuring gg, maybe I'll start doing x3 doses per day and see what happens - thanks.
I've taken a small dose before bed and I sleep better than ever.
I'm going to start my full dose all in one go tomorrow night. I want to just do it and put my mind on the rest of my day not the clock and my tablets.😊
Yes, I take all of my T3 and T4 1 hour before breakfast.
I used to take them at night, but other medication inhibits thyroid hormone medication absorption in the gut, so I switched to the morning and delayed breakfast.
There's a number of medications that are contra-indicated with thyroid hormone replacement medication (inhibiting gut absorption), so it is advisable to be aware of these and adjust the timing accordingly, as well as leaving 1-hour (ideally) after taking T3 or T4 before eating or drinking anything other than water.
Hi Jobeth, i take my t3 only dose just the once in the morning when i wake.
When i first started on t3 i split the dose but suffered greatly with peaks and troughs. I eventually stopped taking as i thought it wasn't suiting me because of this.
I then started back on t3 and having read Shaws' posts i tried just dosing the once found it worked for me.
We are all individual and medications work differently for everyone. It's all a bit of trial and error really till you find what suits you.
Thanks for that, I have been feeling crashing dips lately and I feel it's because of the multiple dosing. I don't want to give up as I've done so well and feel so well especially compared to everything else I've been on. So yes I'm going for the full one time dose. I feel very reasured by reading people's experiences here.
I've tried the lot before i got to where i am now. T4, liquid T4, T3 then NDT and finally back to T3 but this time once only. Have tried to split dose to keep consultant happy but it just doesn't work for me. Plus it's so much more convenient to take just once!
I have no over medicated symptoms, but do know when under medicated and in need of a rise. I'm hoping i won't be rising anymore as i'm on quite an high dose. I have bloods done in a weeks time then back to consultant to keep an eye on things.
