Dr Sarah Myhill in her book - Sustainable Medicine - mentions Gut Fermentation. She prefers this term to SIBO ! She suggests 2000mg of VitC on sleeping - and to increase to bowel tolerance - in order to bring this under control. I was taking a big dose but have stopped now I realise it is the wrong sort of VitC and will have to change brands :-(

Thanks for that information Marz regarding Vitamin C. I'll try taking it with my bedtime T3.

I now retrospectively realise despite being on T4 for 28+Years I had become acutely hypothyroid with challenging Bradycardia. With the help of ThyroidUK and this forum I had done thyroid and genetic tests taken supplements to support my heart including emergency D- Ribrose :) and detoxed liver pathways and also paying attention to methylation.

I'm now digging deeper and looking at Organic Acid tests, H Pylori, SIBO and gut fermentation. with the support of a Functional Nutritionist I'm currently on Day 9 of 28 days doing an elimination Paleo/AI diet - meat and 2 veggies, no grains, eggs or nightshades. I've lost 2.5kgs :).

in order to give us the best baseline for these 3 day tests starting tomorrow II have come off all supplementation bar T4 and T3 for the past 4 days. What I've discovered is if I don't take the second dose of T3 on time my heart lets me know. This resolves within minutes of taking T3! Though I'll feel happier when I'm back onto the water based vitamins etc. Especially the B group.

I've heard a couple of the Microbiome Medecine Summit presentations and found Dr Martha Herbert's one fascinating. Near the end they are talking about targeted probiotic medicines and Auto Immune beneficial Saccharomyces Boulardii.

I haven't Dr Myhill's book yet but I have scoured her website - excellent. What type of vitamin C is recommended? Chelated?

Thanks Marz.

Gosh you have been very thorough. Interesting about the heartbeat and T3 - I was the same when I first started on T3. Always knew when the next dose was due. I was on split dosing at that time - I now take 25mcg morning and night - and have not felt the same sensation. Split doses of course were smaller - so a good indication that I had run out of steam :-)

The Paleo/AI eating plan obviously suits you - which is good. The weightloss sounds impressive too. Which plan are you following ?

Regarding the VitC - I would do your research for the best one - in view of the recent article I posted about the unwelcome ingredients in supplements. I am about to go through mine with a fine tooth comb !

So pleased for you that things are on the up ! Am now about to drag my aching limbs up the mountain - by car - to take a yoga class. That sounds awful - sorry - its only the sciatica......

Hi, could you share which Functional Nutritionist you were seeing, please?

ThyroidUK have a list of recommended practitioners. I’ll pm you with the name of the functional nutritionist I was most fortunate to work with.It has been interesting to reread a post published 6 years ago and how I’ve now answered some of those imponderable questions.

Keep an eye on your heart rate - I’ve discovered when doing the Microbe formulas protocols that arrhythmia is modified/ eliminated by Tudca plus (Amrita Nutrition and ProActive Healthcare) which contains taurine found in bile salts!

As we potentially become more hypothyroid on T4 monotheraphy we lose stomach acidity and therefore the activation of pH specific enzymes that help to make neurotransmitters if/when proteins are broken down to amino acids etc. concurrently the undigested food becomes a haven for undesirables. Tudca plus and Bioactive carbon with replacing minerals. I use ReMag, ReMyte ( Botanicahealth).

Best Wishes.
