I have no words.... When will some doctors learn that the patient knows when something isn't right!

I agree. Patient knows themselves better. If life style ain't the reason for feeling poorly that should immediately ring the bells!
Thank you for posting this. There really does need to be a change in attitude from GPs when they hear the 'weight' word mentioned by a woman. These lazy assumptions must stop.
I wonder what their no.1 columnist Fatty Hater Katie Hopkins would have to say abut this? Because it's papers like the Daily Mail and columnists like *her* that fuel the prejudice that fat people are lazy and that it's a lifestyle choice. I have no doubt that that kind of bile registers in the subconscious of GPs and well, really stupid people.

Joburton, the negligence was in failing to test her thyroid hormones to see whether low thyroid was the cause of her rapid weight gain, and as it must have been, her throat and neck should have been examined for swelling.
Thyroid cancer is usually asymptomatic apart from voice changes and difficulty swallowing and breathing if the tumour compresses the trachea. Thyroid tumours are slow growing so she had the cancer for a long time and rapid weight gain would have made it difficult to visually detect the swelling but physical examination would have found such an extensive tumour.
I had a sensation of something stuck in my throat going back more than 20 years before I was diagnosed with thyCa but no palpable swelling was found upon examination. The thyroid lump appeared in my neck overnight and my GP tested thyroid levels and antibodies, ordered thyroid ultrasound scans and ECGs, and arranged referral to a thyroid surgeon who I saw within 6 weeks. Exemplary care, I think
The Mail seems to be having a bit of a thyroid crusade.
