If you're not on enough levothyroxine - how much are you on? - it's a common symptom of undermedication.

I was put on 300 mcg in November but it didn't help. I was taking some T3 with it in the meantime and it helped but now I run out of it. My doctor doesn't have a clue that I was doing this. I want to do it again as soon as I manage to order T3 again.

Right. OK, less likely it's undermedication, but not impossible.

But more likely your body just doesn't convert T4 to T3 very well and converts the leftover T4 to RT3. So it's probable you need a lot less Levo (possibly none) and more T3.

Do you have any recent blood test results (with ranges and the amount of medication you were taking at the time)?

They only tested my TSH last November it was 4.1. I have FT3 and FT4 but those result are at least a year old, maybe more.

Goodness. If that was on 300mcg of Levo, then there's definitely a problem. It does sound rather as though you need T3.

But I think my first move would be to go back to your doctor and ask for the full range of blood tests to be done. TSH doesn't really tell you anything (other than your thyroid's failed in the first place).

Thanks, I'll do that.

I had terrible headaches on Levo and was told these were because I did not convert it properly.

in reply todebjs

Thank you debjs. That's why I think T3 is a solution for me, I noticed a big difference when I was adding it to levothyroxine. I just ordered some again, so I'll start with T3 again when it arrives.

Hiya,

Bit of a strange question but where are you getting the t3 from? I have tried 8 doctors and none of them are prepared to prescribe it to me as it's no longer liscensed in the uk and I'm suffering massively with a whole lot of symptoms including terrible headaches and have been for more than 6 years! I can't help but think the t3 will help but I get shut down by doctors immediately and they refuse to help

Thanks
