TSH results
Assuming this is the normal test, where the TSH range is up to 5.0, then this is definitely high. This explains why your doc has raised your thyroxine dose.
You may find that going from 75mcg to 125mcg in one leap is too much. You might be better if you go to 100mcg for a week or two before raising to 125. This gives your body time to adjust.
Do you have the range? Did they give you any other results such as Free T4 and Free T3? What time of day was your test?
Tks for replying, it was in the early afternoon I was having a pre op consultation prior to a long awaited operation for anterior posterior repair. Scheduled for the next day or two. As a result of this TSH result the op was cancelled. I am confused and disappointed, as I feel that I have been fobbed off again.
I had my op postponed due to thyroid levels so empathise with your disappointment. I can understand you wanting to get that op done but TSH is well over the normal range so it is better to get it sorted. Good luck when you get the op done. It's a postponement not a cancellation so you'll have you op done.
Tks Blue Mundo, I appreciate your reply and you are right it probably is a postponement rather than a cancellation but it just feels like I'm just taking one step forward and two back all the time.
I am taking vitamin D3 800IU
dottydame - if you are taking 800IU's of VitD then that must mean your VitD is good - it's not even a maintenance dose and is so very low. You will need at least 5000IU's for the winter months. Do you have the result when tested ? grassrootshealth.net shows the table and levels required - so divide your result by 2.5 to match the measurements used
As RFU posted you also need the others tested too. Good levels of B12 are VERY important - if you wish to prevent cognitive decline and neurological issues.
Hope you soon feel better....
Your op was postponed due to your high TSH. Probably it would have been higher if your blood was taken at the earliest time.
Your doctor was very laps to let your TSH rise so high. You should have had a regular blood test and the aim is our TSH to be around 1 or lower. You were probably suffering symptoms which might have been due to being underdosed.
Next time your blood test for thyroid gland is due it should be the earliest possible and fast (you can drink water). Leave about 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the blood test. This keeps your TSH at its highest as it drops throughout the day and many doctors adjust hormones according to the TSH.
Also request the other minerals/vitamins which RFU23 has suggested.
I have an appointment (privately) with an endocrinologist for later this month l will let everyone know how it goes, another thing that bothers me is how I have thyroid eye disease, yet I have an underactive thyroid. I believed TED to be associated with overactive thyroid.
Dottydame, TED is commonly associated with Graves Disease but can also affect patients with positive thyroid peroxidase antibodies or positive thyroglobulin antibodies (Hashimoto's). Suppressing TSH <0.1 may help stop worsening of TED.

I have seen the endocrinologist and have been advised that I have BOTH!? Hashimotos and Graves diseases, it seems this is relatively rare condition, and am awaiting more tests. Meanwhile they have prescribed selenium and have altered my thyroxine. I now take 100mcg on Saturday and Sunday half an hour before my other medications and 75mcg Monday to Friday. I have to wait for my next appointment now. Will keep you posted.
