I will be having a C.T. scan , have read that I could have a contrast agent injected which contains iodine. I am hyperactive with Graves Disease. Is it safe for me to have this iodine injected, as I have excess being over active?

Corena, it should be safe but mention your hyperthyroidism anyway. The iodine in contrast dye sometimes upsets hypothyroid patients as it can reduce thyroid levels.

When refered by my cardiologist for a scan with the contrast agent, I told them I had active Graves and they said it shouldn't be used in patients with active Graves.

Thank you Silver for your advice. have been in touch with the ct unit and they have assured me that my scan will be just of the head so no contrast agent needed, Huge sigh of relief.

Yes, tell someone you have active Graves'. The iodine could make you more hyper.

Don't do it!!! Get a different kind of contrast. I just hat my CT scan, and didn't even think to request something other than iodine, because I figured they would look at my chart and do the right thing, but they didn't. I had to go to the ER that night, and still feel like crap. I am trying to flush my system of this stuff as quickly as I can.

Not good
