Petition From ME Association

Dear All

The ME Association has created a petition re: THE LANCET, PSYCHOLOGICAL MEDICINE, AND THE AUTHORS OF THE PACE TRIAL

They are requesting the Lancet retract it's claims that CBT and GET led to the recovery of ME/CFS patients. Given the weak and flawed methodologies of the PACE trial. The results of the PACE trial is feared to only strengthen claims by some doctors that it is a psychological illness. This is an insult to thousands of sufferers who know that their illness is much much more than this. Exercising and relaxation techniques (as suggested in the trial) do not get a vast majority of patients better.

As we know many ME/CFS patients are in fact hypothyroid and misdiagnosed due to the flawed TSH blood test. We also know that through the superb work that Dr Sarah Myhill has done on ME/CFS that this illness is in fact a physiological illness not simply psychological. Fortunately the physiological aspects can now be proved through lab tests (private only unfortunately, not offered on the NHS).

If this is a subject that resonates with you, please sign. The more people stand up, the more we can be heard.

Thank you.

Signed but not really sure that retracting a 4 year old article will make a significant difference to attitudes.
