How Soy can kill you and save your life.. Very... - Thyroid UK
How Soy can kill you and save your life.. Very interesting info.
Well, nothing new in that. And he could have saved a lot of time and effort by just saying fermented soy good, unfermented soy bad. Which is what we're always saying.
He rather fudged the section on "Soy is a thyroid poison". He says that studies have shown that soy has no effect on hormones. We-ell... that dépends on your definition of 'no effects on hormones'. What soy does is act as a goitrogen - well, it is a goitrogen - and impedes the up-take of iodine by the thyroid gland (so then you become iodine deficient even if you weren't to begin with!) which means that the gland cannot make the hormone. That sounds like an effect to me. Soy then goes on to impede the uptake of thyroid hormone by the cellls, meaning that you become hypo, even though there may be plenty of hormone in the blood. That sounds like another effect to me.
The question I took away from this article is : who's paying him? He didn't lie, but he didn't tell all the truth, either. And the truth he told was so contorted that one ends up not really understanding what he's talking about. Not very convincing for either camp. More like a bit of fence-sitting, I think.
